Job description

SUMMARY: Under the direct supervision of the Production Manager, the Laborer operates various production equipment to manufacture high-quality concrete products, overseeing the process from raw materials to final yard placement while adhering to established policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following responsibilities. Other duties may be assigned as needed:

  • Promotes a culture of safety.
  • Operates machinery to assist in Precast production.
  • Detects when products do not meet quality standards.
  • Ability to learn and correctly use the appropriate sorting and stacking patterns for each product.
  • Understand and follow directions in English as required by safety and job performance standards.
  • Maintain work area in orderly and hazard-free condition.
  • Work to improve plant efficiencies by completing other duties as assigned by supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Education, experience and skills:

  • Must be knowledgeable about safety regulations.
  • Must have appropriate training and understand the specific operating machines.
  • Ability to follow Energy Lockout Procedures.
  • Cooperates well with others.
  • Must have English language reading and writing abilities to understand verbal and written safety guidelines.
  • Must have good vision and ability to recognize differences in product.
  • Must be dependable, well organized, safety minded and have efficient work habits.
  • Must be able to follow OSHA regulations.
  • Must be able to pass OSHA Fork Truck Certification Examination and yard evaluation.

Physical, mental and environmental requirements: Must be able to follow lifting and back safety guidelines while handling concrete products and wooden pallets. Use proper safety guidelines during the complete workday. Work is performed inside plant that is subject to weather conditions including summer heat, winter cold and other conditions. Environment also includes varying noise levels and vibrations associated with plant equipment, and exposure to building materials, dust and dirt at plant. Sort concrete products on conveyor into prescribed patterns for size and type, and feed configured products into stacking machinery; reconfigure products onto pallets as required by production schedule when unable to use stacking machinery. Inspect products and byproducts for conformity to prescribed quality standards such as color, shape, and corners. Remove poor quality products and byproducts as required. Occasionally lift concrete products and other objects weighing up to 100 pounds each, at heights from floor level to chest level height. Reach overhead with lubricating equipment to grease block machine and conveying equipment from a step stool. Place mechanically hoisted steel molds using pushing and pulling motions into the block machine. Lift 4 x 4 oak pallets weighing 40+ pounds during pallet repair. Assist others in moving heavy and bulky objects.
