Job description

WANTED: SUBSTITUTE/PART-TIME TEMPORARY INSTRUCTORS
PRACTICAL NURSING PROGRAMS
Classroom, Clinicals, Anatomy & Physiology (A&P), Math for Meds
TCAT Shelbyville is working to build a pool of substitute/part-time temporary instructors to support our various programs. The communities that we serve are rich with skilled industry and workforce experience. We want to tap into that pool of talent! If you enjoy a flexible schedule, have solid work experience and applicable skills and education in the field of Practical Nursing, we invite you to apply.
AVAILABILITY/CLOSING DATE: This pool application posting does not guarantee an open position. Applications for substitute/part-time temporary instructors are accepted on a continuous basis and reviewed by the department as needs arise and as openings become available. Teaching locations and work schedules vary. The length of a teaching assignment may range from one day to one year per assignment.
HOURLY PAY: $20 - $35 dollars per hour, based on experience, education, position assignment, and institutional guidelines.
TEACHING LOCATIONS: The Practical Nursing program and related pre-requisite courses (A&P, Math for Meds) are offered at two TCAT Shelbyville teaching locations in Shelbyville and Winchester, Tennessee. Teaching location and work hours will vary based on the coverage needed.
DIRECT SUPERVISON FROM: VP of Academics and Compliance
SUMMARY
The instructor will be responsible for the effective performance of assigned responsibilities and duties. Lesson plans, assignments, and instructions will be provided and used as a guideline to lead student activities. The instructor will oversee student conduct, safety, discipline, and appearance, addressing issues as they arise with the VP of Academics and Compliance.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS for Clinical Nursing Applicants
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing
  • 3+ years Clinical Experience in Maternal, Pediatric, Mental Health, and/or Adult Health Nursing
  • Ability to effectively utilize email and basic computer software. (Microsoft Office)
  • Strong customer service skills, effective oral and written communication, and excellent organizational and planning skills

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS for A&P or Dosage Calculation Applicants
  • Associate's degree in nursing or an Associate of Science Degree
  • 3+ years approved work experience in the nursing field
  • Ability to effectively utilize email and basic computer software. (Microsoft Office)
  • Strong customer service skills, effective oral and written communication, and excellent organizational and planning skills.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of the occupation to be taught and the ability to use the tools and equipment used in the industry.
  • Physical ability to lift (up to) 30 lbs. and to move throughout the teaching area to demonstrate and perform all occupational duties, with or without accommodation.
  • Ability to deal tactfully with students, faculty, staff, industry partners, and the public.
  • Ability to express ideas clearly, concisely, and convincingly, and to plan and direct the work of others.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment in evaluating situations, making decisions, and problem solving.
  • Knowledge of and ability to perform basic first aid.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Maintain an organized, safe, and stable learning environment.
  • Follow lesson plans, implement active learning activities, and teach occupational skills and competencies.
  • Utilize in-class assessment tools/techniques to measure student progress.
  • Record and submit grades and attendance (tardiness and absences) daily, per provided instructions.
  • Demonstrate professional worker characteristics and interpersonal skills.
  • Coordinate all disciplinary issues with the VP of Academics and Compliance.
  • Be responsible for and maintain inventory control of equipment, tools, and supplies assigned to the classroom and lab. Report loss or damage immediately.

SPECIFIC DUTIES
  • Adhere to the school calendar and daily class schedule.
  • Start and end class at designated time.
  • Check and respond to emails twice daily (minimum).
  • Other duties as defined by administration.
