IT Manager – Infrastructure Operations
Must live within 25 Miles of Wheeling,IL
Location: Northern Suburbs of Chicago (On-site, Full-Time)
Schedule: Monday–Friday (On-site 5 days/week; occasional Saturdays/on-call support as needed)
Compensation: $130,000 – $150,000 base salary + discretionary bonus
Employment Type: Full-Time | Direct Hire
Position Summary:
A well-established, privately held manufacturing company is seeking a hands-on IT Infrastructure Manager to oversee and support their enterprise IT systems across multiple facilities. This role is based primarily at the company’s main office in the Chicago suburbs, with occasional support at two nearby locations.
As the lead IT resource in the organization, you will manage infrastructure operations and supervise a small technical team (2–3 direct reports). You’ll be responsible for all on-premises infrastructure systems, security, and ensuring the high availability and reliability of IT services in a 24/7 production environment.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Design, implement, and maintain secure, high-performing on-premises infrastructure systems
  • Administer and maintain VMware environments, including vSphere and vCenter
  • Manage Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policies, and related systems
  • Monitor and optimize system performance and proactively address issues to reduce downtime
  • Oversee local and wide area networks, backup systems, and disaster recovery plans
  • Collaborate with business leaders to align IT infrastructure with operational goals
  • Ensure compliance with internal IT policies and external data security regulations
  • Maintain up-to-date documentation of systems, architecture, and standard operating procedures
  • Mentor and support the internal helpdesk and IT support staff
  • Participate in long-term planning for IT investments, upgrades, and system lifecycle management
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
  • 5+ years of experience in IT infrastructure, with 2–3 years in a leadership or managerial role
  • Strong experience with on-prem server environments, VMware, and Active Directory
  • In-depth knowledge of server hardware, virtualization, storage systems (SAN/NAS), and firewalls
  • Excellent troubleshooting and performance-tuning capabilities
  • Comfortable being on call and providing occasional weekend support as needed
  • Strong leadership, communication, and project management skills
  • Industry certifications (e.g., VMware, Cisco, Microsoft, CompTIA, ITIL) are a plus
Preferred Skills:
  • Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code, scripting, and automation tools
  • Understanding of DevOps environments and CI/CD pipelines
  • Experience supporting multi-site operations within a manufacturing or distribution environment
