What are temporary computer science jobs?

Temporary computer science jobs are short-term positions in the field of computer science, often filled to meet project-based needs, seasonal workloads, or to cover for permanent staff on leave. These roles can include positions such as software developers, IT support specialists, data analysts, or research assistants working on fixed-term contracts. Temporary jobs provide valuable experience, networking opportunities, and a chance to build technical skills, which can be beneficial for students, recent graduates, or professionals seeking flexibility.

To thrive as a Temporary Computer Science professional, you need a solid understanding of programming languages, algorithms, and software development principles, often demonstrated through a relevant degree or equivalent experience. Familiarity with version control systems (like Git), integrated development environments (IDEs), and possibly certifications such as CompTIA or AWS can be highly beneficial. Strong problem-solving skills, adaptability, and effective communication help you integrate quickly and contribute to diverse teams or short-term projects. These skills ensure you can deliver quality results efficiently, adapt to new environments, and support organizational technology needs on a temporary basis.

With over $5 billion in revenue and almost 20,000 employees in 600 offices throughout North America, HUB has grown substantially, in part due to our industry leading success in mergers and acquisitions.

POSITION SUMMARY

About Us

Communication & Design, often referred to as C&D, is a specialty practice of HUB. We are a team of creative professionals consisting of writers, designers, consultants, project managers and web and app developers. Our team creates multi-channel campaigns that include print, digital and web-based projects. Most of our work focuses on Employee Benefit Communications, whose aim is to engage employees and make their benefits information easy to understand. If you've ever received a work email letting you know you only have two days left to enroll in health insurance, that's us! Now we're looking for an experienced graphic designer to come help keep our work fresh, inclusive and fun.

Designers are the creative centers of our team, making our communications so bright and alluring that no reader can ignore them (not even the emails about retirement funds). As a designer, you will be responsible for updating and formatting high-quality Adobe InDesign files. This role demands a high level of technical skill and attention to detail. The ideal candidate will be highly proficient in Adobe InDesign and have a keen eye for layout, typography and color.

Our team of professionals embraces humor, creativity and individuality. Our team members include pet lovers, crafters, Netflix couch potatoes, board game collectors and more, so don't hide your spark! We'd love to know what makes you tick.

This is a temporary position. We are looking for a commitment August 31 - December 11, 2026.

Our Ideal Candidate

We are looking for people who are friendly and communicative, who possess a high attention to detail, are creative and organized and can multi-task. If you can meet strict deadlines and work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment, this is the place for you.

A day in the life of a CORE Graphic Designer

Work with the Employee Benefits Communication and Design team on heavy production work to:

  • Be a general Adobe InDesign wizard

  • Work with templates to create new - and edit existing - materials

  • Work within design guidelines, standards and best practices

  • Manage client assets and develop, organize and maintain client folders within a shared network

  • Juggle multiple projects simultaneously

  • Follow timelines

Our expectations for all Team Members:

  • Willingness to dedicate extra time and attention to complete tasks, when required. Our "busy season" is typically late September through early December.

  • Be yourself and work toward the overall improvement of who we are and what we do at HUB.

  • Be ready to lend a helping hand when needed and be ready to ask for help when needed!

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to compose clear and concise correspondence.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Remote professional office environment (office equipment including a laptop with the requisite software and/or phone will be provided). You may be remote but you won't be alone - you'll meet our team members during new employee training, keep in touch through Microsoft Teams and catch up with everyone over video calls.

  • Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essentials. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

  • Fast and accurate hands-on skills in Adobe Creative Suite

  • WordPress experience is a plus, but not required

  • Demonstrated computer proficiency (Outlook, Microsoft Office Suite)

  • Employee benefits knowledge is a plus, but not required
