Description
Modern Railway Systems, a subsidiary of Stacy Witbeck is seeking an experienced Senior Signal Engineer to plan, design, and deliver rail transit signal systems from conceptual to final design, and construction support phases for light rail, commuter rail and high-speed rail projects. This position offers a unique opportunity to interact with clients and team members across the entire organization, working on highly sophisticated project deliverables.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
Design & Review: Develop and check detailed signal hardware and logic designs, control tables, route and aspect charts, and vital interlocking logic. Redline existing drawings and work with drafting to maintain and update CAD files. Design/modify signal line, crossing approach and cable plans. Design/modify and test/verify application logic programs, write test procedures, and develop a test plan.
Testing & Commissioning: Support installation and field testing for signal systems. Configure and maintain Software Configuration Management Control Plan database. Develop and maintain power calculations for AC, DC and battery loads associated with signal design.
Project Management: Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams, contribute to engineering schedule and budget development, and review contractor shop drawings. Develop and maintain material lists.
Safety & Standards: Comply with all safety rules and procedures and report all hazards as required. Attend and participate in all assigned meetings and training, specifically safety and security related.
QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Associate's degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or 10 years of experience in Signal Engineering Design.
REQUIREMENTS
  • Minimum of 15 years designing railroad signal systems.
  • Minimum of 8 years leading design teams for railroad signal systems.
  • Experience with Vital Signal Circuit Design for relay and microprocessor-based systems, minimum of 7 years.
  • Familiarity with multiple logic simulation environments.
  • Quality minded and detail oriented with the ability to read and understand specifications and contract drawings.
  • Report and correspondence writing ability including specification documents, release notes, product submittals and RFIs.
  • Capable of generating technical white papers and power calculations.
  • Understanding of requirements tracing methods and tools.
  • Highly organized and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Adept at in working in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Knowledgeable in train operations and associated safety requirements.
  • Familiar with Microsoft 365, specifically Word and Excel, with the ability to learn other software applications.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to be able to communicate successfully with a variety of disciplines and levels, both internal and external staff.
  • Able to perform moderate data collection and analysis.
  • Experience working independently and leading small teams.
  • Can manage their own schedule and priority.
  • Possess mentorship skills to guide less experienced engineers to prepare project documents and designs.
  • Able to design, peer review designs, and troubleshoot independently even on more complex engineering.
  • Be able to manage significant client interfaces on small to medium projects and moderate interfaces on large projects.
  • Can contribute moderately to schedule, estimating and budgeting efforts.

PREFERENCES
  • Is a subject matter expert in at least one subsystem.
  • Able to develop logic for ELIXS and VHLC applications using Logic Station compiler, experience with MicroLok and VPI applications is also desired.
