JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE

Bus/Van Driver - Upward Bound Program

POSITION SUMMARY

Coker University seeks Part-Time Temporary Bus/Van Driver for TRIO Upward Bound, to transport students for Saturday College Days and session and/or Summer Academy.This is a grant-funded position. TRIO Upward Bound bus/van drivers are expected to ensure the health, safety, and welfare of the Upward Bound participants while riding in the van. Responsibilities include transporting students in grades 9-12th from select schools (Darlington, Dillon, Hartsville, Marion) during scheduled Saturday sessions and five-week long Summer Academy.Students being served by the program are typically from low income and/or will be the first in their families to graduate from college. The tutoring and summer courses are intended to help students to strengthen their study skills, spark interest in life-long learning, and offer any necessary remediation to prepare for college/university enrollment.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES

  • Transport students to and from designated pick-up and drop-off locations
  • Ensure that any behavioral issues do not compromise the safety of any students on the van.
  • Perform daily sign on and sign off sheets, accounting by name all students getting on and off the bus/van.
  • Ensure that no student is ever left unattended while on the van
  • Perform a complete visual safety check of each bus/van driven on a daily basis, completing daily, pre, and post trip checklists.
  • Keep interior of bus/van clean daily, and bus/van exterior as needed.
  • Report any needed repairs.
  • Convey any messages from parents, as well as, any incidents on the bus/van.
  • Record mileage and submit gas receipts.
  • Other job-related duties as assigned

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Must be a graduate student if a student at the university

EXPERIENCE:

    • Experience driving vans/buses and working with low-income, first-generation students
    • Must have exceptional interpersonal communication
    • Ability to maintain schedules while meeting needs of students
    • Valid, unexpired Driver's License, as well as bus/van driver training, which will be provided.
  • High consideration will be considered to those driving in the school districts

University Standard Service and Excellence Expectations.

Transportation and weekend sessions are scheduled bi-weekly according to a preplanned schedule, typically between 6:30 AM and 9:30 AM and 1:00 PM and 4:30 PM.
