What We Look For In a Linguistics Tutor

Emphasizes analytical reasoning about language structure and connects linguistics to speech pathology, artificial intelligence, and anthropological research.
  • Curriculum Awareness & Adaptive Instruction: Familiar with introductory and intermediate linguistics curricula and common challenges such as mastering IPA transcription, constructing phrase structure trees, and distinguishing levels of linguistic analysis. Adapts instruction using problem sets from diverse languages, transcription practice tools, and tree-drawing exercises to support undergraduate linguistics majors and students in related fields including cognitive science and education.
  • Effective Teaching Methods: Ability to identify concepts students commonly struggle with, explain material using multiple approaches, and adapt instruction to meet individual learning needs and styles.
  • Strong communication skills and a friendly, engaging teaching style.
  • Ability to adapt to different learning styles and student needs.
