Duties and Responsibilities
Job Summary:
We are seeking a talented and energetic Temporary HR Manager to join our team at Loyola University Chicago. Reporting to the Temporary HR Director, the HR Manager provides comprehensive Human Resources support to assigned academic and administrative units, with a focus on employee relations, change management, and talent acquisition.
This position is established to support Human Resources operations during the University's ERP implementation and is effective through July 1, 2027. The role is based on-site and serves as a key resource to managers and staff during this period of organizational transition.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Leadership and Strategy
  • Provide consultative HR leadership in the areas of employee relations, organizational effectiveness, change management, performance management, and workforce planning.
  • Manage employee relations matters directly, including investigations, disciplinary actions, and performance improvement processes.
  • Provide guidance to managers and HR staff on conflict resolution, coaching, and problem-solving strategies.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on federal and state employment laws and University policies.
  • Collaborate with HR leadership on organizational development and strategic initiatives.
  • Promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging through inclusive recruitment and employment practices.
  • Support the development and implementation of HR strategies aligned with institutional objectives.
  • Ensure consistent application of HR policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Anticipate workforce challenges and advise leadership accordingly.
  • Lead and participate in special HR projects and ERP-related initiatives, as needed.

Staff Support and Coordination
  • Provide functional guidance and support to HR Generalists, Specialists, and student workers, as assigned.
  • Support professional development through mentoring, training, and performance feedback.
  • Assist in establishing clear expectations and accountability standards.
  • Coordinate workflow and priorities in collaboration with HR leadership.
  • Serve as a Subject Matter Expert on full cycle ADA claim management.

Client and Stakeholder Relations
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with faculty, staff, and administrators.
  • Serve as a trusted HR advisor to assigned departments.
  • Assess stakeholder needs and provide responsive, strategic HR support.
  • Gather and analyze feedback on HR services and recommend improvements.
  • Utilize HR data and analytics to support departmental decision-making.

Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education and/or Work Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, or a related field required.
  • Minimum of 5 - 7 years of progressive Human Resources experience.

  • Demonstrated experience providing consultative HR support to academic and administrative departments.
  • Proven expertise in employee relations, investigations, performance management, and conflict resolution.
  • Experience supporting talent acquisition, onboarding, and workforce planning initiatives.
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and university employment laws and regulations.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to influence and collaborate effectively across all levels of the organization.
  • Strong service orientation and proven relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, complex environment while managing confidential information with discretion.
  • Experience in higher education, nonprofit, and/or unionized environments preferred.
  • PHR/SPHR certification preferred but not required.
  • Ability to serve as a Subject Matter Expert on full cycle ADA claim management.

Certificates/Credentials/Licenses
Professional Human Resources certifications (PHR/SPHR) are preferred.
Computer Skills
Proficiency in HR information systems and applicant tracking systems (e.g., PeopleAdmin), enterprise systems related to ERP platforms, and strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). Experience with data reporting tools, collaboration platforms (e.g., Microsoft Teams, Zoom), and HR analytics systems is required.
