Job description

CNC Burn Table Operator


Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced CNC Burn Table Operator to safely operate Kinetics, MG, Peddinghaus, FICEP, and other automatic or semi-automatic burn table equipment. This position is responsible for selecting the correct materials, aligning steel on the equipment, monitoring the cutting process, and ensuring all finished parts meet job specifications and traceability requirements.

The ideal candidate has previous CNC or heavy steel fabrication experience, understands cut and nest sheets, and is committed to safety, quality, and teamwork.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Safely operate automatic and semi-automatic CNC burn table equipment
  • Follow all company procedures and OSHA safety requirements
  • Locate and verify the correct materials for each job
  • Confirm material grades, alloys, thicknesses, and sizes before beginning the cutting process
  • Operate forklifts and overhead cranes to move, load, position, and unload materials
  • Verify that all torches are properly positioned before starting the equipment
  • Use laser and CNC equipment to accurately align material on the burn table
  • Access the table when necessary to confirm proper material alignment
  • Read and follow cut sheets, nest sheets, fabrication drawings, and work instructions
  • Monitor the machine throughout cutting cycles, which may last up to 21⁄2 hours
  • Walk alongside moving equipment when required to monitor quality and ensure safe operation
  • Remove completed parts, drop material, and scrap from the machine
  • Mark finished parts with the correct job numbers, heat numbers, and part numbers to maintain traceability
  • Palletize completed materials according to job requirements
  • Report equipment malfunctions and maintenance concerns to management
  • Keep assigned equipment and surrounding work areas clean, organized, and safe
  • Attend safety meetings and actively support the company’s safety culture
  • Perform additional duties as needed to support facility operations


Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • At least two years of CNC machine operation or large/heavy steel fabrication table experience preferred
  • Experience operating CNC burn table equipment strongly preferred
  • Ability to read and accurately follow cut sheets and nest sheets
  • Ability to identify different material grades, alloys, thicknesses, and sizes
  • Experience operating a forklift and overhead crane preferred
  • Ability to safely work around moving machinery and steel materials
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
  • Ability to communicate professionally with coworkers, supervisors, and other departments
  • Positive attitude and ability to work effectively as part of a team


Reporting Structure

This position reports directly to the facility’s Automated Equipment Supervisor and the appropriate Shop Superintendent.
