Full-time

Job description

SUMMARY:

Jenoptik Light & Safety builds the civil security and smart city systems used by agencies across North America and Europe. We're looking for a DevOps engineer to own our build and release pipelines, manage our containerized environments, and give our development teams the confidence to ship. You'll work on a globally distributed engineering team, architecting the infrastructure that keeps our software reliable, secure, and easy to deploy. Development experience, especially .NET, is a strong plus but not required. We're hiring for DevOps depth first.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO):
  • Design engineering processes that simplify how we build, deploy, and operate software.
  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps, Docker, and Kubernetes.
  • Manage Azure-hosted, containerized environments and keep our .NET applications highly available.
  • Review code and designs for scalability, performance, and alignment with best practices.
  • Build developer tools that speed up releases and improve code quality, including automated releases and test automation frameworks.
  • Partner with the development team to define standardized environments that bridge local development and production.
  • Write technical documentation, unit tests, and integration tests, and keep CI/CD pipelines current.
  • Support governance and quality assurance through automated testing and integration validation.
  • Troubleshoot deployment issues and optimize performance within Azure.
  • Serve as an escalation point for service incidents.
  • Evaluate new tools and approaches, including infrastructure as code, observability, and serverless, to keep our stack current.
REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience as a DevOps engineer or in a similar infrastructure or platform role.
  • Strong knowledge of Azure DevOps, Docker, and Kubernetes, plus hands-on experience across the Azure ecosystem and web application architecture.
  • Experience with configuration management and infrastructure-as-code tools like Ansible or Terraform.
  • CI/CD experience with Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, or similar tools.
  • Strong scripting skills in PowerShell, Python, or Bash.
  • A deep understanding of the software development life cycle.
  • Knowledge of Azure (or a similar cloud), .NET, and SQL/SQL Server.
  • Familiarity with common web architectures, such as LAMP or MEAN stacks, CDNs, and load balancing.
  • Experience mentoring and training other engineers.
  • Experience working on a globally distributed engineering team.
  • Strong communication skills. You can explain infrastructure concepts clearly to developers, other technical teams, and management.
  • Comfortable absorbing technical detail quickly and making sound decisions under tight deadlines, even with incomplete information.
  • This position is located in Vancouver.  Must reside in the Vancouver area.  Willingness to travel to Jupiter, FL; Mississauga, ON; Monheim am Rhein, Germany; and Farnborough, England.
  • Experience with radar, photo enforcement, or traffic systems is a plus.
  • This position is open due to a vacancy
  • This position does not use AI to screen or assess candidates
  • The salary requirement for this position is a base salary between $95,000 to $106,000 CAD + bonus.
DESIRED SKILLS:
  • Hands-on backend development experience, particularly .NET (C#). It helps to understand the developer's perspective, but it's not required.
  • Experience assessing application security and developing threat models, with familiarity implementing DevSecOps practices, including security scanning throughout the SDLC.
  • Exposure to observability and monitoring tools like Grafana, Prometheus, Application Insights, or the ELK stack.
  • Advanced Git skills: branching strategies, hooks, and similar workflows.
  • Comfort working in an Agile/Scrum environment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

This role occasionally requires standing, walking, sitting, and using your hands to handle tools, objects, or a keyboard. You may need to reach, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or work at heights and on ladders. Occasional lifting up to 50 pounds is required. Reasonable accommodations are available for individuals with disabilities.
