Overview

The Studio Modeling Manager oversees daily operations of the Modeling Studio, supervising a team of (currently) two Senior Modelers to produce high-quality model properties for design presentations and reviews. This role collaborates closely with Design, Digital Modeling, and Studio Engineering teams to ensure models meet all packaging and design specifications. The Studio Modeling Manager reports to the Design Director and serves as the primary liaison with the Design Team, Studio Engineer, and CNC Programmer.


Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Project Management

  • Lead the Modeling Group in creating three-dimensional models, mockups, and scale/full-size clay and hard mockups of product concepts
  • Schedule and supervise all studio projects, managing work assignments and deliverables to meet timeline and budget objectives
  • Monitor model development progress to ensure project requirements and deadlines are met; adjust priorities and assignments as needed
  • Foster professional development of modeling staff

Operations & Technical Management

  • Operate and maintain ITP towers and scanning equipment
  • Manage studio materials, supplies, and inventory
  • Procure equipment and supplies within approved budget parameters
  • Coordinate vendors, suppliers, and contractors for facility maintenance and operations
  • Maintain project documentation and provide timely reports

Strategic & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Respond flexibly to changing requests from Product Planning, Engineering, and Design teams
  • Identify and implement improvements to studio capabilities, productivity, and efficiency
  • Proactively identify issues and drive resolution and consensus
  • Communicate professionally with internal and external stakeholders

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Minimum 7+ years of clay model surface development and fabrication experience
  • Minimum 3+ years of supervision/team leadership experience
  • Project lead experience
  • Expertise in armature design, concept modeling, Class-A surface refinement, and hard modeling techniques
  • Automotive/transportation design experience
  • Proficiency with CMM, ITP towers, and scanning equipment software
  • Proven ability to manage multiple assignments in fast-paced environments
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated reliability, integrity, and proactive problem-solving abilities
  • BS, BA, or BFA in Industrial Design or Transportation Design required

    Additional Job Board Information

The salary range for the Studio Modeling Manager is $104,100 - $162,900 annually. This position is also eligible for a holiday gift. Additionally, this role is eligible for the full range of benefit options listed above.
