Job description

Kern Medical has been a community cornerstone since its founding in 1867. Today, we are an acute care teaching center with 222 beds, offering the only advanced trauma care between Fresno and Los Angeles.  Kern Medical cares for 15,500 inpatients and 125,000 clinic patients a year.

  • Extra-help employment has a limited term (up to 9 months).

Position: Transport Services Associate - Temporary

Compensation:

The estimated pay for this position is $19.2821 to $24.7941. This reflects only a portion of the total compensation package for this position. Additional compensation may be available for this role through differentials, incentives, and bonuses.

Definition:

Under supervision performs services related to the transportation of supplies and equipment within Kern Medical.

Distinguishing Characteristics:

This classification is characterized by its responsibility to transport equipment, furniture, supplies lab specimens and other materials through Kern Medical facilities and may be required to assist in the movement of patients.  Incumbents, working in a team structure, follow established procedures while conforming to safety and sanitation polices in a fast paced environment.

Essential Functions:

  • Transports various supplies and equipment within Kern Medical including but not limited to food carts, late and early trays, patient equipment, linen and laundry, lab specimens, medical records and cash.
  • Collects and transports trash, refuse, hazardous and bio-hazardous materials to designated locations
  • Moves furniture, sets up and breaks down tables and chairs for catering events.
  • Completes records associated with assigned duties including but not limited to documentation associated with the delivery of meals, cash transactions, lab and medical records, vehicle safety reports and sanitation inspections.
  • Cleans interiors and exteriors of vehicles and equipment used in the transportation of supplies and equipment.
  • Dependent upon assignment assists in the transportation of patients.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with co-workers and hospital staff.

Other Functions:

  • Identifies maintenance needs within the hospital and reports to designated personnel.
  • May supervise and direct the work of special program personnel assigned to Kern Medical.
  • Attends hospital in-service orientation and other meetings as required.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Employment Standards:

High School Diploma, G.E.D. or equivalent AND a valid California Class C Driver’s license. Any combination of training or experience that provides knowledge of basic mathematics, English grammar and spelling, and California Motor Vehicle laws.

AND

Appointees not possessing the American Heart Association Responder or Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) card at time of hire must successfully complete appropriate training and qualify for the RQI Responder certification within 60 days of employment. As a continued condition of employment, employee must maintain RQI Responder certification and competency.

Ability to:

Understand and follow oral instructions; read, compare and verify information; perform basic mathematical computations; develop and maintain good customer relations; interact and communicate with co-workers, patients, visitors and the public in the course of duties in regards to age specific considerations; work effectively in a team environment; organize and accomplish tasks in a fast paced environment; learn and comply with basic hospital and governmental safety requirements and regulations.
