Job description

Temporary Production Associate

Company: Rapid Deployable Systems / InTENTional Tents
Location: Binghamton, NY
Department: Production

Employment Type: Full-Time Temporary
Reports To: Production Manager

Position Summary

Rapid Deployable Systems and InTENTional Tents are seeking dependable and hardworking Production Associates to support the manufacturing of tentage, shelter systems, fabric structures, and associated products. This position is hands-on and may include sewing, operating RF welding equipment, working on production and assembly lines, handling fabric and hardware components, performing quality checks, and assisting with general manufacturing tasks.

The ideal candidate is reliable, safety-focused, detail-oriented, and able to work as part of a team in a fast-paced production environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform production work related to the manufacturing of tents, shelters, fabric structures, and related products.
  • Operate industrial sewing machines to sew fabric panels, webbing, binding, zippers, Velcro, labels, and other components.
  • Operate RF welding equipment to bond, seal, or weld fabric materials according to production requirements.
  • Work on assembly lines to fabricate, assemble, package, and prepare finished goods for shipment.
  • Read and follow work instructions, production drawings, cut sheets, travelers, and job-specific requirements.
  • Measure, align, fold, position, and prepare fabric and components for sewing, welding, and assembly.
  • Install or assist with the installation of hardware, straps, grommets, reinforcements, labels, liners, floors, sidewalls, and other shelter components.
  • Inspect work for quality, accuracy, workmanship, and conformance to specifications.
  • Identify and report material issues, equipment concerns, production defects, or safety hazards to supervision.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
  • Support multiple work centers as needed based on production demands.
  • Assist with material handling, staging, counting, sorting, and movement of parts and finished goods.
  • Follow all company safety procedures, quality standards, and production policies.
  • Meet daily production expectations while maintaining quality and attention to detail.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by production leadership.

Required Qualifications

  • Ability to work reliably and report to work on time as scheduled.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to work with hand tools, measuring devices, fabric materials, and production equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a production team.
  • Willingness to learn sewing, RF welding, assembly, and other manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to maintain a safe and organized work area.
  • Prior manufacturing, sewing, assembly, or warehouse experience is helpful but not required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience operating industrial sewing machines.
  • Experience with RF welders, heat sealing equipment, or fabric welding processes.
  • Experience in tentage, textile manufacturing, military products, shelter systems, awnings, tarps, or related fabric products.
  • Ability to read basic production drawings, work orders, or manufacturing instructions.
  • Experience working in a quality-controlled manufacturing environment.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, push, pull, and perform repetitive tasks throughout the shift.
  • Ability to lift and move materials up to 50 pounds as needed.
  • Ability to work with large fabric panels and bulky shelter components.
  • Ability to use hands and fingers for sewing, assembly, measuring, positioning, and handling materials.
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with noise, machinery, fabric dust, and changing production demands.

Work Environment

This position is performed in a manufacturing and production facility. Employees may work around sewing machines, RF welders, cutting tables, assembly stations, hand tools, forklifts, pallet jacks, fabric rolls, hardware, and finished goods. Safety procedures must be followed at all times.

Schedule

Standard production schedule to be determined by company needs. Overtime may be required based on customer demand, production deadlines, and business requirements.
