Job Title: AOI Operator
Job Description

The AOI (Automated Optical Inspection) Operator is responsible for operating inspection equipment to verify the placement and solder quality of electronic components on printed circuit boards. This role serves as a critical quality checkpoint within the SMT manufacturing process, ensuring products meet IPC standards and customer requirements. Responsibilities include machine operation, reviewing flagged defects, routing defective boards for rework, documenting inspection results, and providing real-time feedback to improve production quality. The role requires strong attention to detail, knowledge of PCB components, and the ability to work with inspection software and quality systems.

Responsibilities

  • Operate AOI inspection equipment to assess the placement and solder quality of electronic components.
  • Review and analyze flagged defects to ensure compliance with IPC-A-610 standards.
  • Route defective boards for rework and document inspection results accurately.
  • Provide real-time feedback to improve production quality.
  • Assist with AOI programming or optimization as needed.
Essential Skills
  • Hands-on experience operating Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) equipment.
  • Strong understanding of IPC-A-610 acceptability standards for electronic assemblies.
  • Ability to identify common PCB defects such as solder bridges, tombstoning, polarity issues, and missing components.
  • Experience working in SMT/PCBA production environments.
  • Capability to differentiate between true defects and false calls.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience assisting with AOI programming or optimization.
  • Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems.
  • Knowledge of preventative maintenance and inspection protocols.
  • Understanding of AS9100D and ISO industry standards.
  • 1–3 years of electronics manufacturing experience (AOI, SMT, or quality inspection).
  • Proficiency with Windows-based systems and inspection software.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • High attention to detail and ability to focus on repetitive tasks.
  • Visual acuity and color differentiation ability.
  • Manual dexterity for handling sensitive electronic assemblies.
