The UHealth Laboratories Department at the University of Miami has an exciting opportunity for a Medical Technologist 1.
SUMMARY
The Medical Technologist 1 (H) performs and analyzes routine blood, urinalysis, and coagulation procedures, and reviews the results of complex scientific tests on blood and bodily fluids. Additionally, the incumbent collaborates with physicians and laboratory management on patient data.
CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Prepares cultures of tissue samples.
  • Establishes and monitors programs that ensure data accuracy.
  • Examines slides of bodily fluids using microscope or other relevant equipment.
  • Crossmatches blood for transfusions.
  • Analyzes urine chemically to identify toxic components and collects and studies blood samples to determine morphology.
  • Evaluates laboratory reports for accuracy.
  • Operates, calibrates, and safeguards laboratory equipment.
  • Delivers test results to physicians, researchers, and patients.
  • Identifies unusual results and takes appropriate action to make corrections and solve problems.
  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Associate's degree in relevant field
Certification and Licensing:
Current Florida Medical Technologist License
Experience:
Minimum 1 years of relevant preferred.

  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
  • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.

DEPARTMENT ADDENDUM
Department Specific Functions
  • Responsible for the Point of Care Activities in Sole Mia building and North Satellites Responsible of the monthly POCT Nursing training.
  • Responsible of setting up, maintaining, troubleshooting QC for each analyte for each nursing unit.
  • Responsible for the initial training records, yearly re-certification, QA, Critical value monitoring and verification, audit trails, unit assessment, correlation studies, parallel testing, etc.
  • Perform Semiannual linearities.
  • Responsible for the process and documentation of the Proficiency Testing for each analyte/each nursing department.
  • Responsible for validating, implementing, and monitoring all current and new POCT methodologies.
  • Monitor critical value results making sure of the exiting record of the provider notified.
  • Visit all the areas on weekly basis to make sure that instruments are working properly, also all the Nursing staff needs are resolved.
  • Any other activities assigned by Supervisor.
