What is a temporary Amazon Relay owner operator?

A Temporary Amazon Relay Owner Operator is an independent truck driver or small fleet owner who contracts with Amazon to transport freight for a limited period, often to meet seasonal or short-term demand. These operators use their own vehicles to haul loads assigned through the Amazon Relay platform, which connects carriers with available Amazon shipments. Temporary roles may last for a few weeks or months, depending on business needs, and provide flexibility for operators who prefer not to commit to long-term contracts. This position is ideal for those seeking extra income or looking to fill gaps in their existing schedules.

What are some common challenges faced by temporary Amazon Relay owner operators, and how can they prepare for them?

Temporary Amazon Relay Owner Operators often encounter challenges such as fluctuating freight demand, tight delivery schedules, and navigating Amazon's strict compliance standards. Adapting to route changes and managing downtime between loads can also be demanding. To prepare, it's essential to maintain a reliable vehicle, stay updated on Amazon's safety requirements, and be proactive in communication with dispatchers. Building flexibility into your schedule and budgeting for potential gaps in assignments can help ensure success in this dynamic environment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a temporary Amazon Relay owner operator, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Temporary Amazon Relay Owner Operator, you need a valid commercial driver's license (CDL), a clean driving record, and experience with freight delivery or logistics. Familiarity with Amazon Relay’s app, electronic logging devices (ELDs), and GPS navigation systems is typically required. Strong time management, problem-solving abilities, and customer service skills help you stand out in this role. These skills ensure timely deliveries, compliance with regulations, and positive partnerships with Amazon and its clients.

Job description

CDL-A REGIONAL SOLO2 DRIVER 2 DAYS ON / 2 DAYS OFF EARN APPROXIMATELY $58,000$81,000

Savages Logistics LLC, an Amazon Freight Partner, is hiring safe, dependable, and professional CDL-A drivers for consistent regional routes based out of Miami, Florida.

This position offers a predictable rotating schedule, no-touch freight, hourly pay with overtime, excellent benefits, and two consecutive days off after every two scheduled workdays.

COMPENSATION AND EARNING POTENTIAL

  • Starting pay: $23.00 per hour
  • Overtime pay: $34.50 per hour after 40 hours per workweek
  • Paid weekly
  • Approximately $58,000 in annual gross earnings on the regular rotating schedule
  • Potential to earn approximately $81,000 annually by averaging one additional 13-hour shift per week
  • Healthcare benefits
  • 401(k)
  • Paid time off

Extra shifts depend on route availability, operational needs, attendance, and DOT Hours of Service eligibility. Extra shifts and the higher earnings amount are not guaranteed.

HOW THE SCHEDULE WORKS

Drivers follow a rotating 2-days-on/2-days-off schedule.

Each route is shared by two assigned drivers who work opposite rotations. When you are working your two scheduled shifts, your route partner is off. When your route partner takes over, you receive two consecutive days off to spend at home with your family.

This is not team driving. Drivers do not work in the truck together.

Because the rotation crosses calendar weeks, drivers typically work:

  • Three 13-hour shifts during one week: approximately $897 gross
  • Four 13-hour shifts during the following week: approximately $1,334 gross
  • An average of 34 regularly scheduled shifts per week
  • Approximately $58,000 in regular annual gross earnings

Drivers who want to increase their earnings may volunteer for additional shifts when available and when DOT Hours of Service permits.

A driver who averages one additional 13-hour shift per week may earn approximately:

  • $1,334 gross during a four-shift week
  • $1,782.50 gross during a five-shift week
  • Approximately $81,000 in annual gross earnings

The rotation includes nights, weekends, and holidays. Applicants must be comfortable working their assigned start time and the complete rotating schedule.

WHY DRIVE WITH SAVAGES LOGISTICS?

  • Predictable 2-on/2-off rotation
  • Two consecutive days off after each two-day work block
  • Consistent routes and scheduled start times
  • No-touch Amazon freight
  • Hourly pay instead of mileage-based pay
  • Overtime after 40 hours in a workweek
  • Modern automatic tractors
  • Healthcare, 401(k), and paid time off
  • Additional earning opportunities through optional extra shifts
  • Direct communication with local company leadership
  • Safety-focused and respectful work environment
  • Opportunities for dependable drivers to grow into lead-driver or trainer roles

WHAT WE EXPECT

We are looking for professional drivers who take safety, attendance, communication, and equipment care seriously. This opportunity is best suited for drivers who want a stable schedule, predictable time off, and a long-term position with a growing company.

Successful drivers will:

  • Safely operate a tractor-trailer for shifts lasting up to 13 hours
  • Follow DOT Hours of Service requirements
  • Perform complete pre-trip and post-trip inspections
  • Use Amazon Relay, electronic logging devices, and other required mobile applications
  • Communicate promptly and professionally with dispatch
  • Properly report delays, safety concerns, and equipment issues
  • Protect company equipment and maintain a clean tractor
  • Follow all company, DOT, and Amazon safety requirements
  • Remain alert and make responsible safety decisions throughout the shift

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Valid Class A Commercial Drivers License
  • At least 21 years of age
  • Verifiable experience operating a tractor with a 53-foot trailer strongly preferred
  • Ability to safely complete regional routes and 13-hour scheduled shifts
  • Acceptable motor vehicle record and safety history
  • Ability to meet DOT medical qualification requirements
  • Ability to pass all required background, motor vehicle record, and drug screenings
  • Ability to qualify under Amazon Freight Partner and company requirements
  • Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays as required by the rotation
  • Reliable transportation to and from our Medley yard

  • Initial telephone screening
  • Employment and driving-history verification
  • Amazon Relay onboarding
  • Background and motor vehicle record screening
  • DOT drug testing and driver qualification
  • Road test and safety training

IMPORTANT: Please apply only if you understand and can consistently work a rotating 2-days-on/2-days-off schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

To receive priority consideration, include the following with your application:

  1. Your total years of CDL-A tractor-trailer experience
  2. Your experience operating a 53-foot trailer
  3. Whether you can work the complete 2-on/2-off rotation
