Temporary 3D Car Modeling information

What is temporary 3D car modeling?

Temporary 3D car modeling involves creating digital three-dimensional representations of vehicles for a limited period or project. These roles often support automotive design studios, game development, or advertising agencies by providing detailed models of cars that can be used for visualization, prototyping, or virtual testing. Temporary 3D car modelers use specialized software like Blender, Maya, or 3ds Max to build accurate vehicle models based on design specifications. The work is typically contract-based and may focus on specific car parts, concept vehicles, or photorealistic rendering for presentations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a temporary 3D car modeler?

To thrive as a Temporary 3D Car Modeler, you need expertise in 3D modeling concepts, a strong portfolio, and proficiency in automotive design principles, often supported by a degree in industrial or transportation design. Familiarity with industry-standard software such as Autodesk Maya, Blender, or 3ds Max, as well as experience with CAD tools and rendering engines, is typically required. Attention to detail, creativity, and effective collaboration skills help you produce innovative and accurate models under tight deadlines. These abilities ensure high-quality visualizations that meet client specifications and support the overall design and engineering process.

What are some common challenges faced in a temporary 3D car modeling position, and how can I prepare for them?

In a temporary 3D car modeling role, you may encounter challenges such as quickly adapting to different project requirements, mastering new software tools used by the company, and meeting tight deadlines for deliverables. To prepare, it's helpful to familiarize yourself with a variety of 3D modeling software (such as Blender, Maya, or 3ds Max) and stay updated on automotive design trends. Additionally, strong communication skills are essential, as you'll often need to collaborate closely with engineers, designers, and other team members to ensure your models align with technical and aesthetic specifications.

Ayoroa Simmons is a leading provider of end-to-end surveying and Building Information Modeling (BIM) solutions for the AEC industry. Our Reality Capture Division is one of the fastest-growing segments of the firm, emphasizing excellence in geomatics practices and high-precision data collection to drive smarter, faster project delivery.

SURVEY TECHNICIAN (ENTRY LEVEL)
3D LASER SCANNING & POINT CLOUD
TEMPORARY (6 MONTHS) WITH OPPORTUNITY FOR PERMANENT EMPLOYMENT

Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Area and Beyond (eastern U.S.)

THE OPPORTUNITY
We are seeking an entry-level, detail-oriented Survey Technician to join our growing team of BIM professionals. This is a W-2 temporary direct-hire position for six (6) months with a full benefits package, and an opportunity to convert to a permanent role based on performance, workload needs, and team fit.

In this role, you will support our data acquisition efforts through 3D laser scanning, point cloud processing, and surveying tasks. You will work alongside experienced team members to capture and organize spatial data that supports BIM modeling, design verification, and as-built documentation.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist with terrestrial 3D laser scanning in diverse field environments (e.g., offices, utility spaces, and exterior campus sites).
  • Support point cloud registration and processing using Leica Cyclone and NavVis Ivion (training provided as needed).
  • Assist with control surveys, topographic surveys, and existing-conditions surveys using established field procedures and technologies.
  • Help coordinate field activities with internal teams and project stakeholders to support accuracy and schedule alignment.
  • Organize project files and support QA/QC processes for scanning and registration outputs.
  • Support downstream deliverables by preparing scan data for integration into design platforms and documentation workflows.
  • Maintain scanning/survey equipment and follow established field procedures and safety practices.
  • Travel as needed to access project sites, including travel for several days at a time as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Associate degree (or in-progress) in Geomatics, Surveying, Civil Engineering Technology, Architecture, Construction Management, or a related technical field; OR equivalent technical training (trade school, military, or relevant hands-on experience).
  • Demonstrated interest in laser scanning, surveying, reality capture, BIM, or related A/E/C technical workflows.
  • Comfort working in field environments and adhering to safety procedures.
  • Strong attention to detail and basic computer proficiency (file organization, transferring large datasets, following documented workflows).
  • Ability to communicate clearly, follow instructions, and work collaboratively with technical teams.
  • Ability to travel for several days at a time, as required by project needs.

Preferred

  • Internship, coursework, or project experience with 3D laser scanning, surveying instruments, or point cloud workflows.
  • Familiarity with Leica Cyclone, NavVis Ivion, Revit, and/or AutoCAD (not required).
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel within the region and to out-of-area project sites as needed.
  • Manufacturer or industry training related to scanning/surveying (Leica, NavVis, Trimble, etc.).

EMPLOYMENT DETAILS

  • Employment type: W-2 temporary direct hire (not through a staffing agency)
  • Duration: Six (6) months
  • Benefits: Full benefits package during the temporary term
  • Location: Washington, D.C. metropolitan area; travel required
  • Schedule: Full Time

OPPORTUNITY FOR PERMANENT EMPLOYMENT
At the end of the six-month term, high-performing team members may be considered for conversion to a permanent role. Conversion consideration is typically based on reliability, safety, quality/accuracy, learning progression, teamwork, and ongoing workload demand.

Why Join Our Team?

At Ayoroa Simmons, we invest in people and technology to push the boundaries of what's possible in surveying and BIM. As part of our team, you'll gain:
