Job description

Job Title: CNC Machinist / ProgrammerJob Description

This full-time CNC Machinist / Programmer role focuses on programming, setting up, and running a cell of Haas CNC mills to produce high-quality prototype and short-run components for a variety of industries. The position is ideal for a self-starter who thrives in a non-production environment where parts, materials, and challenges change frequently, and where craftsmanship, precision, and innovation are central to the work.

Responsibilities
  • Program, set up, and operate Haas CNC mills using MasterCam to produce precision components.
  • Run and manage a dedicated cell of Haas CNC mills, ensuring consistent output and adherence to specifications.
  • Create prototype and short-run production parts for a variety of industries and applications.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings and blueprints to determine machining requirements.
  • Utilize precision measuring instruments to verify dimensions, tolerances, and overall part quality.
  • Select appropriate tooling, speeds, and feeds for various materials and machining operations.
  • Perform routine maintenance on CNC machines to ensure optimal performance and minimize downtime.
  • Troubleshoot machining issues, adjust programs and setups, and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Perform changeovers efficiently when switching between different parts, materials, or jobs.
  • Work independently to plan, prioritize, and complete machining tasks within tight deadlines.
  • Collaborate with team members to improve processes, enhance quality, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
Essential Skills
  • Minimum 5 years of CNC programming and machining experience, focusing on mills (not operator-only experience).
  • Proficiency in MasterCam for programming CNC milling operations.
  • Hands-on experience programming, setting up, and running Haas CNC mills.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings.
  • Proficiency with precision measuring instruments to verify dimensions and tolerances.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, solve problems, and meet tight deadlines.
  • Solid understanding of tooling selection, machining processes, speeds, and feeds.
  • Experience with CNC machining, including setup, programming, and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to perform machine changeovers and adjust setups for different parts and materials.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience creating prototype and short-run production parts for multiple industries.
  • Background in working with a variety of materials in a non-production, job-shop-style environment.
  • Familiarity with machine operation best practices and routine maintenance procedures.
  • Comfort working in a dynamic environment where jobs and requirements change frequently.
  • No formal degree or specific certification required; equivalent experience considered.
Why Work Here?

You will join a collaborative, craft-focused environment that values quality, innovation, and individual ownership of work. The role offers the opportunity to work on diverse, non-repetitive projects rather than high-volume production, allowing you to apply and grow your programming and machining skills. You will have the autonomy to manage your own work, contribute ideas for process improvement, and see the direct impact of your craftsmanship on finished components.

Work Environment

This is a full-time position in a machine shop environment centered around a cell of Haas CNC mills and MasterCam programming. You will work with advanced CNC equipment, a variety of materials, and precision measuring tools to produce prototype and short-run parts. The shop is not a high-volume production facility, so the work is varied and project-based, with frequent changeovers and new setups. The environment requires attention to detail, adherence to safety practices, and comfort working around machinery, tooling, and standard shop conditions.
