Temp Robot Programming information

What are the typical challenges faced by someone in a Temp Robot Programming position, and how can they be addressed?

Temp Robot Programming roles often require quickly adapting to new robotic platforms and unfamiliar work environments. Common challenges include understanding proprietary programming languages, integrating robots with existing systems, and troubleshooting issues under tight deadlines. Success in this role often depends on strong problem-solving skills, the ability to learn quickly, and effective communication with permanent staff and engineers. Being proactive in seeking help and thoroughly documenting your work can ease the transition and ensure project continuity after your assignment ends.

What is the difference between Temp Robot Programming vs Robot Maintenance Technician?

AspectTemp Robot ProgrammingRobot Maintenance Technician
CredentialsTechnical certifications, programming skillsTechnical certifications, mechanical and electrical skills
Work EnvironmentManufacturing plants, automation facilitiesManufacturing plants, maintenance workshops
Employer & IndustryAutomation companies, factoriesFactories, industrial plants
Primary FocusProgramming and configuring robotsMaintaining, troubleshooting, repairing robots

Temp Robot Programming involves creating and adjusting robot software to optimize manufacturing processes, often on a temporary basis. Robot Maintenance Technicians focus on repairing and maintaining robotic systems to ensure continuous operation. While both roles require technical skills and work in manufacturing environments, their core responsibilities differ: programming versus maintenance.

What are Temp Robot Programmers?

Temp Robot Programmers are professionals hired on a temporary basis to program, configure, and troubleshoot robots used in manufacturing, automation, or other industries. They typically work with robotic systems to ensure they perform tasks efficiently and according to specifications. These programmers may write or modify code, test robotic movements, and collaborate with engineering teams to integrate robots into existing workflows. Temp roles are often project-based, providing flexibility for companies to scale their workforce based on demand.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Temp Robot Programmer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Temp Robot Programmer, you need a solid background in robotics, programming (such as Python, C++, or proprietary robot languages), and automation systems, typically supported by relevant technical education or experience. Familiarity with industrial robots (e.g., ABB, FANUC, KUKA), PLCs, and simulation software is often required, along with certifications in robotics or automation. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication help you adapt quickly to new environments and collaborate with engineering teams. These skills are vital for efficiently developing, testing, and troubleshooting robotic solutions in dynamic, project-based assignments.

QinetiQ US will support you with workplace flexibility, a commitment to the health and well-being of you and your family and provide opportunities to work with a purpose. We are committed to supporting your success in both your professional and personal lives.
Position Overview
Join us in our fast-paced support to develop, advance, and sustain weapon systems for the U.S. Space Force (USSF) and its mission partners. You will be joining a team of personnel with experience and an in-depth understanding of the environments that include ground, near-space, space, and any system that operates in those environments to meet current and projected strategic, operational, and tactical needs for the Department of Defense (DoD). QinetiQ is a mission-led innovation company that works with the USSF and DoD to design, develop, field, and maintain requirements essential to national security and the survivability of the warfighter.
We are seeking a Tracking Systems Engineer to provide expert technical analysis and engineering support to government customers responsible for developing, acquiring, and sustaining space-based tracking and sensing capabilities under the SAF/SQ program. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in space sensing, nuclear command control and communications (NC3), and systems engineering across the acquisition lifecycle.
Responsibilities
  • Provide systems engineering support for space-based tracking, sensing, and NC3 programs including requirements analysis, architecture development, and trade studies
  • Evaluate contractor technical proposals, system specifications, and design documentation for space tracking and sensing systems; provide independent technical assessments and recommendations
  • Assess technical maturity, risk, and performance of tracking systems across all phases of the acquisition lifecycle
  • Support the revision or drafting of JCIDS and acquisition documentation such as Initial Capability Documents, Analysis of Alternatives, Concept of Operations, Technical/Systems Requirement Documents, and System Specifications
  • Advise the Government program manager on technical engagements (e.g., technical interchange meetings, design reviews, program conferences) and establish customer and contractor interfaces
  • Provide technical and operational insight to support mission protection, operations, and mission data assessments; recommend viable solutions for technical anomalies
  • Support development of Systems Engineering Plans (SEPs), Test and Evaluation Master Plans (TEMPs), and requirements verification matrices
  • Analyze space tracking data, sensor capabilities, and coverage architectures; provide recommendations to support acquisition decisions
  • Identify areas of improvement with actionable, feasible recommendations for reducing risk; support risk identification, process definition, and detailed technical risk mitigation plans

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering, electrical engineering, physics, or a related STEM discipline;
  • 8+ years of engineering experience with DoD space systems, sensor systems, or tracking technologies
  • Demonstrated knowledge of space situational awareness, satellite tracking, NC3 architectures, or related domains
  • Experience with systems engineering methodologies including requirements decomposition, interface management, and verification and validation
  • Experience supporting formal design reviews and independent technical assessments in a government or SETA capacity
  • Knowledgeable with respect to IC, DoD, Air Force, Space Force, or SSC processes and procedures
  • Strong analytical, written, and verbal communication skills; ability to produce high-quality technical documents and executive briefings
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with multiple competing priorities
  • Active TS w/ SCI Eligibility; #qinetiqclearedjob

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree preferred
  • Experience with DoD space sensing programs such as Space Fence, overhead persistent infrared (OPIR), or NC3 modernization efforts
  • Familiarity with model-based systems engineering (MBSE) tools such as Cameo or MagicDraw
  • INCOSE CSEP (Certified Systems Engineering Professional) or equivalent certification
