Job description

theWit Hotel, a dynamic destination within the Hilton Brand, stands at the intersection of sophistication, creativity, and exceptional hospitality in the heart of downtown Chicago. We are seeking a detail oriented Dishwasher that will assist in all aspects of the Stewarding department.

About the Role

The Dishwasher is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and sanitation standards in all areas of the kitchen, including dishes, utensils, equipment, and workspaces. This role plays a vital part in supporting the culinary and food & beverage operations by ensuring a clean and organized back-of-house environment that meets hotel and health department standards.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Operate and maintain cleaning equipment and tools, including the dish washing machine, hand wash stations pot-scrubbing station, and trash compactor.
  • Wash and disinfect kitchen and storeroom areas, tables, tools, knives, and equipment.
  • Perform preventative maintenance assignments on a scheduled basis.
  • Receive deliveries, store perishables properly, and rotate stock.
  • Use detergent, rinsing, and sanitizing chemicals in the 3-compartment sink to clean dishes.
  • Inspect, pull, and stack cleaned items, send soiled items back for re-scrubbing and re-washing.
  • Empty and maintain trashcans and dumpster area.
  • Clean and mop all areas in assigned departments.
  • Break down cardboard boxes and place them and other recyclables in the recycle bin.
  • Actively participate in Safety Plan and energy improvements.
  • Communicate both verbally and in writing to provide clear direction to staff.
  • Comply with attendance rules and be available to work on a regular basis.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least 1 year of experience in a hotel or related field preferred.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the English language.
  • Must be able to lift, push, pull and carry up to 50 lbs. to include serving trays, carts, tables, chairs, and small equipment up to 75% of the time.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time without sitting or leaning.
  • Able to work in a high-pressure environment.
  • Knowledge of basic sanitary guidelines.
  • Must be able to hear with 100% accuracy with correction.
  • Must be able to see 20/20 vision with correction.
  • Able to work: Holidays, weekends and any day/shift
  • Maintain knowledge of hotel property, hotel staff, hotel services, hotel service hours of operation and hotel surroundings (i.e. mall, restaurants).
  • Adhere to all work rules, procedures and policies established by the company.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older. 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Fast-paced hospitality environment.
  • Requires extended periods of standing and walking.
  • May involve occasional lifting of items up to 25 lbs.
