Job description


As a Mailing Machine Operator, you’ll operate machines that process and handle mail, ensuring that mail is addressed, sorted, processed, and prepared for shipment and delivery in compliance with US and international postal and shipping regulations. In particular, you’ll operate the inkjet printer, inserters, folding machines, and tabs. Working with the Mailing Services Manager and members of the Mailing Services Team, the Mailing Machine Operator uses their knowledge of mailing equipment and processes as well as their skill at efficiently and accurately using the print and bindery equipment to contribute to the efficiency of accuracy, and profitability of mailing operations.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate inkjet equipment.
  • Set up and operate mechanical tabbing equipment.
  • Set up and operate envelope inserting equipment.
  • Sort mail per USPS regulations to match postal paperwork for bulk mail entry.
  • Operate machines that seal envelopes and apply postage.
  • Monitor the operation of machines to ensure that mail is processed accurately and according to set standards and quality control procedures.
  • Collation and assembly of non-machinable mailing packages
  • Review postal paperwork and internal job tickets to check specifications and follow instructions provided for production.
  • Presort and tray mail per USPS specifications.
  • Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on mail processing machines to ensure they operate smoothly.
  • Identify and resolve issues that may arise during the processing of mail.
  • Collaborate with team members and supervisors to prioritize projects and ensure the timely and accurate completion of mailing projects.
  • Work with mailing department team to perform quality control checks.
  • Ensure tasks are carried out in a timely manner.

Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities

  • Excellent attention to detail

  • Mechanically inclined
  • Experience with inkjet, tabbing and inserting software and equipment a plus.
  • Experience working with bulk mail a plus.
  • Knowledge of Windows OS and Microsoft office suite.
  • Understanding of international mail/shipping requirements a plus.
  • Understanding of USPS / FedEx / UPS package services a plus.
  • Understanding of design and print production processes a plus.

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • 1-2 Years of Industry Experience Preferred

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to easily navigate the workplace, including offices and production areas, to supervise and collaborate with team members.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with team members.
  • Able to routinely lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Regularly standing for long periods of time.
  • Regularly use hands and fingers to handle, control or feel objects.
  • Regularly see details of objects that are less than a few feet away.
  • Regularly speak clearly so listeners can understand.
  • Regularly understand the speech of another person.
  • Frequently work on projects that require deadlines.
  • Ability to work Mandatory Overtime and on weekends when required.
