Job description

Job Summary -
We are looking for a skilled Milling Operator to safely and efficiently operate asphalt milling machines on roadway, parking lot, and site development projects. This role is responsible for the setup, operation, and basic maintenance of milling equipment to ensure accurate surface removal and preparation for paving. The ideal candidate has strong equipment experience, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety and quality workmanship.

Key Responsibilities -

  • Operate milling machines to remove asphalt pavement to specified depth, grade, and slope
  • Set up equipment, including drum selection, grade controls, and conveyor adjustments
  • Perform pre-shift inspections and routine maintenance to ensure equipment is in safe working condition
  • Coordinate with ground crew and foreman for efficient material removal and loading
  • Monitor milling depth, speed, and pattern to meet project specifications
  • Maintain awareness of surrounding personnel, traffic, and utilities to prevent incidents
  • Assist with machine cleaning and minor repairs as needed
  • Complete daily equipment logs and inspection reports
  • Follow all safety protocols and wear required PPE
  • Assist with other site tasks when equipment is not in operation
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Qualifications/Requirements -

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.   • 2+ years of experience operating milling machines or other heavy equipment
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Familiarity with grade control systems and milling machine adjustments
  • Ability to read grade stakes, plans, and work orders
  • Solid mechanical aptitude for troubleshooting minor equipment issues
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with the crew
  • Valid driverโ€™s license required; CDL preferred
  • Ability to work long hours, including weekends and evenings, as needed
  • Must be willing to travel overnight when projects are outside the local area
