Job description

Job Description: The Security Officer working at our WellStone Emergency Services (WES) location will ensure the safety of all clients, visitors, and staff during the 24/7/365 operations by monitoring the campus on an hourly basis. Some key responsibilities include patrolling units and building surround, proactive monitoring, de-escalation assistance, client management assistance, and client-centered communication. This is a part-time, hourly position working Saturdays & Sundays, 7am-7pm. 

What you'll be doing:

  • Adheres to the Center’s philosophy of care, professional ethics and other standards of policies and procedures.
  • Makes rounds throughout the WES temporary and permanent campus facilities on a routine basis (every hour) to ensure security and protection for both staff, visitors, and clients.
  • Monitor parking lots and assist individuals as needed for information and directions.
  • Stopping and/or questioning unauthorized personnel to enforce the Center’s Policies and Procedures with an understanding that employment with the Center is in the capacity of security and safety.
  • Responding to emergency situations and calling law enforcement as back up when needed or deemed necessary.
  • Properly trained in Crisis Intervention Techniques, Client Rights, HIPAA Confidentiality, Infectious Control and other training requested by the Training Director.
  • Understanding that primary therapists and other clinical staff may direct officers to a particular area to assist with an out-of-control, aggressive, agitated, and manic client.  It is understood that this assistance will be in a supportive capacity. 
  • The Officer will be expected to adhere to the clinically sound practices and defer to clinical staff regarding interventions used so as to not infringe on the client’s rights as outlined by the Alabama State Department of Mental Health (ADMH).
  • The Officer understands that they may have to document incidents as required by the Executive Team in relationship to property damage, theft, altercations, and other miscellaneous incidents.
  • Submit documentation of events and incidents to the Human Resource Department.
  • Advise staff on proper safety protocols and procedures in regard to office safety, personal safety, and safety when exiting the building.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 1-2 years’ experience with population preferred.
  • Driver’s License valid in AL with acceptable MVR
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Certified in (or ability to obtain) CPR and SAMA certifications
