Job description

Founded in 1895, Kirlin Lighting is the longest-operating independent lighting fixture manufacturer in the United States. This is an entry level position, at our headquarters in Detroit, for a shop hand/press operator who is mechanically inclined, precision oriented and able to produce quality parts under deadlines. We are a rapidly growing company offering growth potential to associates who embody industriousness, conscientiousness, focus, a willingness to learn, very good attendance, a positive attitude, and the ability to enhance the performance of a team.
Duties to be assigned daily by Pressroom Leader. Duties include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Operating press
  • Operating PEM press
  • Operating drill press
  • Operating band saw
  • Operating press brake
  • Operating shear
  • Operating saw machines (CNC and miter)
  • Sanding/deburring parts
  • Assembly of frames, housings, misc. assemblies
  • Using hand tools for general fabrication tasks
  • Hand drill (drill or tap), jig saw, hand held punch, rivet gun, hand riveter, arbor press
  • Adherence to 5S principles (keeping area clean and organized) in concert with completing tasks
  • Logs job progression in ERP system
  • Temporary assignment to assembly or packaging tasks during periods of high or low volume.
Preferred skillsets

  • Able to read prints and drawings to facilitate the accurate manufacture of parts and assemblies
  • Able to measure and mark with precision using calipers, tape measure, SAE/Metric scale, micrometer.
  • Understands shop math

  • Adheres to safety standards at all times
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform repetitive tasks
  • Able to work overtime as needed.
