Job description

Job Title: Operator I

Job Description

The Operator I plays a key role in maintaining high industry standards by producing high-quality products in a controlled manufacturing environment. This role involves receiving raw materials, partnering with quality control to test materials and products, blending high-volume cellulose powder, packaging finished goods, and supporting a safe, productive, and quality-driven atmosphere on the production floor.

Responsibilities

  • Receive raw materials and coordinate with quality control to test materials and finished products according to established procedures.
  • Mix high-volume cellulose powder in industrial blenders while following precise formulas and instructions.
  • Monitor manufacturing processes to ensure consistent product quality and adherence to production specifications.
  • Continuously monitor equipment and instrumentation safely and with minimal guidance, including mills, blenders, shakers, PLCs, water systems, pumps, extruders/dispersers, forklifts, and hand trucks.
  • Shut down and internally clean process equipment in accordance with standard operating procedures.
  • Ensure all documentation complies with current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP) requirements.
  • Follow all safety and quality protocols, including the proper use of uniforms, hairnets, beard covers, safety glasses, hardhats, and hearing protection.
  • Perform basic equipment maintenance and assist with equipment improvements as needed.
  • Identify and communicate opportunities for continuous improvement in processes, safety, and efficiency.
  • Perform general housekeeping tasks such as sweeping, mopping, and cleaning equipment with detergents to maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Work collaboratively within a small team, following direction from the shift supervisor and supporting team goals.
  • Operate safely on the starch production line while meeting production targets and quality standards.

Why Work Here?

You will join a culture that values initiative, self-discipline, and long-term career growth rather than short-term jobs. Once converted to permanent status, you can participate in an annual profitability bonus tied to overall company performance, aligning your success with the organization’s success. The role offers a clear advancement path from Operator I to Operator II, Operator III, and Team Leader, with pay increases at each level. Night shift employees receive an additional shift premium once permanent, and you will work in a supportive team environment where colleagues collaborate closely, maintain a work-first mindset, and build strong professional relationships.

Work Environment

The facility is climate controlled to maintain materials at specific temperatures and ensure products meet customer specifications. This role is assigned to the starch production line in a manufacturing environment that operates on a 2-2-3 schedule, with 12-hour shifts: 1st shift from 5:45 a.m. to 6:15 p.m. and 3rd shift from 5:45 p.m. to 6:15 a.m. There is currently one opening on night shift and no openings on day shift. You will typically work within a team of four and receive daily responsibilities from a shift supervisor. The culture emphasizes strong teamwork and a work-first mentality, with colleagues frequently spending time together while staying focused on production goals. The environment is temperature controlled and involves regular interaction with production equipment such as mills, blenders, shakers, PLCs, pumps, water systems, extruders/dispersers, forklifts, and hand trucks. Dress and personal protective equipment requirements include uniforms, hairnets, beard covers, safety glasses, hardhats, and hearing protection to ensure safety and product quality.
