HIL/SIL Electrical Systems Test Engineer Sterling Heights, MI $63.00-$72.40/Hour We are hiring a HIL/SIL Electrical Systems Test Engineer in Sterling Heights, MI, to support advanced embedded systems testing, real-time simulation, and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) / Software-in-the-Loop (SIL) verification for military ground combat vehicle platforms. This role requires expertise in embedded electronics, electrical systems engineering, sensor emulation, FPGA integration, CAN bus analysis, data acquisition (DAQ), automated testing, and real-time simulation environments supporting mission-critical defense vehicle systems.
Responsibilities: Develop, integrate, and maintain HIL/SIL test environments supporting embedded systems verification Create synthetic driving and operational environments, including terrain, weather, lighting, obstacles, and vehicle position Develop and maintain real-time, physics-based plant simulations Design and implement signal conditioning, fault injection, and sensor/actuator emulation Develop and execute automated test frameworks and test executives Perform data acquisition (DAQ) across multiple interfaces, including: CAN, Ethernet, MIL-STD-1553, RS-232/422/485, SSI Discrete analog and digital I/O Integrate and support third-party test, simulation, and analysis tools Support embedded software test, verification, and validation activities Analyze and troubleshoot network, signal integrity, timing, and performance issues Technical Expertise: Electrical & Electronic Engineering Digital Circuit Design: Signal conditioning, A/D & D/A, encoders, counters, digital filters (IIR, LP/HP/BP), isolation, control logic Analog Circuit Design: Analog signal conditioning, filter design, Nyquist sampling, aliasing mitigation, resolver/LVDT/thermocouple circuits Serial & Data Interfaces: RS-232, RS-422/485, CAN, MIL-STD-1553B, Ethernet, SSI, SPI, I2C FPGA Design: Sensor emulation, digital filtering, serial interfaces, high-speed logic control Microcontrollers: Custom embedded microcontroller application design Power Systems: AC/DC power design (3V, 5V, 28VDC, 120/240VAC), circuit protection, high-voltage safety Signal Analysis: FFT, noise analysis, frequency/duty cycle measurement, filter performance evaluation Cable & Harness Design Wire selection, sizing, insulation, EMI performance, thermal, and mechanical constraints Shielding, grounding, and EMI mitigation Military connector selection (materials, contacts, keying, clocking) Cable fabrication techniques (crimping, soldering, strain reliefs) Signal integrity analysis (R/L/C effects, propagation delay, noise) Electrical Documentation Electrical schematics Single-line diagrams Cable and harness drawings Electrical layout drawings Networks & Data Buses Ethernet & TSN: Switches, time synchronization (PTP), reservation, CNC/CUC CAN Bus: Design, communication, and analysis Serial Networks: MIL-STD-1553B, RS-232/422/485, SPI, I2C, SSI Video Interfaces: RS-170, SDI, HDMI, DVI, VGA High-Bandwidth Buses: AFDX, PCI Express, Ethernet Military Vehicle Systems (Working Knowledge) Power distribution and integration Mobility systems Survivability systems Lethality systems Qualifications: U.S. Citizenship is required by Federal Law Education Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (required) Minor in Computer Science or Computer Engineering (preferred) Experience 10+ years supporting full lifecycle development and test of embedded or real-time systems Experience in military, avionics, or automotive systems Experience with embedded electronics architectures Experience testing embedded software using HIL/SIL methods Experience developing test applications in NI VeriStand, Vector CANoe, Simulink, NI TestStand, or equivalent Experience reading and interpreting electrical schematics Core Competencies HIL/SIL system development Signal conditioning and sensor/actuator emulation Simulation and data acquisition Network and protocol analysis Model-based design methods (e.g., UML) Standards & Compliance Familiarity with PCAP, PTP, PRP Working knowledge of MIL-STD-882E, ISO 26262, FACE Experience with military safety design and assessment per MIL-STD-882E Moseley Technical Services, Inc. is an AA/EEO/Veterans/Disabled Employer Your Recruiter What to Expect * Applicants selected for employment will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screening and background investigation, which may include education, criminal, and work history verifications.
