General Purpose
The Geographic Information System Technician is responsible for performing hands-on maintenance, data entry and technical support for the City's Esri GIS system. This position is estimated to be 15 hours per week for six months, with the possibility of extending the duration and/or the weekly hours.

Essential Job Functions
  • Responsible for timely and accurate updates to existing GIS datasets, including but not limited to public safety needs, Assessor's office needs, and departmental GIS needs.
  • Administer the Esri system including patches, updates, and user administration.
  • Perform GIS procedures and interpret GIS data.
  • Create maps and other visual tools using Esri and the City's open data portal (powered by Esri).
  • Assists users across departments with GIS tools.
  • Assists staff with troubleshooting GIS issues, resolving problems in the operation and usage of GIS applications and data.
Non-Essential Job Functions:
  • Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications/Basic Job Requirements
