Job Summary
This will be a temporary work-study position for eligible students with FWS funding, supporting administrative and technical operations related to human subjects research with a strong emphasis on computational data organization, microscopy image management, and research productivity. The role assists faculty and Principal Investigators in organizing, curating, and preparing large-scale microscopy image datasets that form the foundation of multiple manuscripts in progress. The individual in this role will work closely with faculty to help transform years of accumulated research data - including thousands of microscopy images - into organized, analyzable datasets that support the completion of approximately 25 scholarly papers. This position is ideal for a student with an engineering or computer science background who is interested in applying computational skills to real-world human biology and medical research questions and is eager to learn the biological context behind the data.
May be included in paper authorship depending on contribution to work.
Work will include subject identification across molecular databases.
Responsibilities
Research Data & Image Management
  1. Organize, catalog, and curate large microscopy image datasets stored on servers and external hard drives.
  2. Classify images by year, subject, study, and experimental parameters to ensure traceability and usability.
  3. Maintain structured data organization systems that support long-term research use and manuscript preparation.
  4. Assist in organizing image series that represent years of experimental work, recognizing each image as part of a larger scientific narrative.

Computational & Database Support
  1. Enter, manage, and maintain research-related data in electronic databases.
  2. Apply computational thinking and basic data processing methods to improve data accessibility and workflow efficiency.
  3. Support faculty and research staff in preparing datasets for analysis, visualization, and publication.

Research Operations Support
  1. Assist Study Coordinators and Clinical Research Coordinators with execution of study-related tasks as needed.
  2. Communicate regularly with Coordinators and Principal Investigators regarding progress on assigned data and organizational tasks.
  3. Organize and prepare study-related equipment and supplies, including data storage devices and image transfer materials.

Regulatory & Study Support (as applicable)
  1. Assist in the preparation and maintenance of regulatory documents and IRB submissions.
  2. Organize study documentation and support pre-study, monitoring, and investigator meetings.
  3. May assist with scheduling subject visits, determining visit windows from protocols, and sending visit reminders.

Data Quality & Reporting
  1. Organize and prepare research data for analysis and manuscript development.
  2. Assist with accurate data entry from source documents or medical records into electronic systems.
  3. Support reporting and tracking of study data elements as directed by the research team.

Learning & Collaboration
  1. Engage in hands-on learning of human biology concepts relevant to the research data.
  2. Participate in investigator and staff meetings to understand study goals, timelines, and scientific context.
  3. Work collaboratively with faculty, research staff, and student mentors to meet defined project milestones.

Minimum Qualifications
This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements. We protect our patients, coworkers and community by requiring all patient-sensitive employees to be immunized according to CDC standards and hospital policy. Limited exemptions may be made for documented medical contraindications or religious beliefs that object to vaccinations.
Preferences
Preferred background in Applied Math and Computer Science; experience in the industry doing analytical work and optimizing algorithms.
Lab experience analyzing DTI/DSI brain tractography in DS vs Normals. Analyzing 7 intercellular databases (DNA Methylation, RNA-seq, miRNA, Protein, Phosphoprotein, Lipids, Metabolism) both separately and together for DS vs normals. Experience in developing, with very high precision, a model that predicts certain diseases from these 7 intercellular databases + cognitive & imaging data.
Experience with the use and development of AI approaches to data organization and analysis.
