Job Summary

The Peleg Lab at the BioFrontiers Institute is seeking two Temporary Researchers to help collect data and run experiments with live honeybees. Our lab merges tools from physics, biology, engineering, and computer science to study communication and coordination in living systems, including honeybees and fireflies. We are located in the Jennie Smoly Caruthers Biotechnology Building (JSCBB) on East Campus. We anticipate a flexible schedule during the pilot phase. What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

The position is for two Temporary Researchers to help run experiments and collect experimental data from live honeybees. Job duties include outdoor tasks at an apiary, and indoor tasks at our lab. Apiary work includes extracting experimental frames for imaging, checking on and maintaining hives, and collecting bees for laboratory experiments. In-lab work involves constructing experimental setups and recording data.

Applicants should be comfortable lifting 50lb boxes and working outside.

  • This is a 100% in-person position.
What We Can Offer

$20 per hour.

What We Require
  • Bachelor's degree in biology, engineering, math, or a similar field.
  • Coursework or interest in biological systems.
What You Will Need
  • Strong organization and reliability.
  • Must be comfortable working with live insects outdoors and in the lab.
What We Would Like You to Have
  • Experience designing experiments and collecting data.
  • Basic coding experience (i.e., Python, MATLAB, C++, etc.).
