Job description

WBFF-TV is seeking an Assistant News Director! The Assistant News Director oversees the production of newscasts and assignments while working closely with producers, reporters, anchors and our digital content team on daily news coverage.  Must be proficient in creative writing, copy editing, enterprising stories and be committed to journalistic integrity and managing compelling newscasts. We are looking for someone who embraces social media and knows how to consistently engage with audiences across all platforms.  The AD also assists with running the Assignment Desk by helping coordinate breaking news coverage and basic newsgathering functions. 

Skills & Experience: 

  • Oversee newscasts, script reviews of producers and reporters for assigned newscasts 
  • Aggressively lead breaking news and severe weather coverage 
  • Identify, research and develop daily content
  • Compelling and accurate writing, post content to station website and social media sites
  • Work closely with news director to carry out news philosophy and direction 
  • Review daily newscasts to ensure quality control and brand compliancy 
  • Oversee Special Projects and enterprise coverage
  • Develop and maintain contacts and sources to enterprise story ideas
  • Maintain efficient operations of the assignment desk
  • Other responsibilities as assigned  

Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism or a related field 
  • Computer knowledge/word processing skills, proficiency with Microsoft Office products
  • Proficiency with Facebook, Twitter, and other social media platforms
  • Must have a working knowledge of journalistic ethics, libel, and privacy laws 
  • Exceptional written communication skills using a conversational writing style 
  • Ability to communicate effectively, work well under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Great people skills with an emphasis on coaching and motivating 
  • Experience in research, public records requests, etc. is a plus

The base salary compensation range for this role is $86,250 to $115,000.  Final compensation for this role will be determined by various factors such as a candidate's relevant work experience, skills, certifications, and geographic location. Full time positions are eligible for benefits that include participation in a retirement plan, quarterly and annual incentive plan bonuses, life and disability insurance, health, dental and vision plans, flexible spending accounts, 15 paid vacation days, 2 paid personal days, 9 paid holidays, 40 hours of paid sick leave, parental leave, and employee stock purchase plan.
