Do you have a passion for "showcasing" content-making every story pop with the right graphics, pacing, and digital integration? We're looking for a Senior Producer who is a former line producer at heart but a coach and innovator by design. You'll lead one of the most creative news teams in Phoenix, turning daily newscasts into high-impact, multi-platform experiences that our audience can't miss.
Duties/Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
What You'll Do:
• Coach and inspire: Lead and mentor a team of line producers, helping them sharpen their storytelling skills and elevate their newscasts.
• Master the rundown: Review daily rundowns with a critical eye, identifying opportunities to "showcase" big stories and ensure a sophisticated flow.
• Own the quality: Review scripts and fonts to ensure every word and graphic is error-free, compelling, and aligned with our digital-first strategy.
• Innovate every day: Work closely with the News Director and Executive Producer to shape high-impact story development and newscast sophistication.
• Drive digital integration: Ensure our content lives and breathes across all platforms, from the big screen to the smartphone in our viewers' hands.
• Prioritize with poise: Navigate the fast-paced news environment with a proactive mindset, independently prioritizing tasks while building deep trust within the team.
What You Bring:
• Proven track record: Previous experience producing compelling newscasts in a competitive market (you've been in the trenches and loved it).
• Leadership DNA: Experience managing or mentoring a news team-you know how to get the best out of people.
• Visual storytelling chops: A creative eye for using graphics and video to make stories stand out.
• Killer writing skills: You can craft a lead that hooks an audience and a script that flows naturally.
• Digital-first mindset: You understand that news happens everywhere, and you're ready to execute a strategy that reflects that.
• Detail obsession: You're a stickler for the small stuff, ensuring error-free work even under tight deadlines.
• Proactive problem-solver: You see the big picture and anticipate needs before they become issues.
• Urgency and empathy: You thrive under pressure but never lose sight of the human element in our stories and our newsroom.
Why You'll Love It Here:
• Creative freedom: Join a team that values innovation and encourages you to try new things.
• Leadership impact: You won't just be producing shows; you'll be shaping the future of our newsroom and the careers of your team.
• Phoenix lifestyle: Work in a vibrant, competitive market with a team that feels like family.
• Innovation focus: Gray Media is leading the way in digital-first media-you'll be at the forefront of that evolution.
• Growth opportunities: We invest in our leaders and provide the tools you need to succeed and advance.
Ready to lead the next generation of storytellers in Phoenix? Let's talk.
Qualifications:
• A college degree in journalism or a related field, and at least two or more years of newsroom experience. At least one year in a leadership role or management position preferred. Title and pay commensurate with experience. There is room to grow with Gray.
• Must have a desire to win, the ability to reflect on your work, and apply feedback.
• Excellent communication skills (written and verbal), proven news judgment, ethics, and integrity.
