The Opportunity:  Barminco Mining Services Canada Ltd. has an exciting opportunity for  General Surface Labourers at the Red Chris Mine in northern British Columbia.  Working a FIFO rotation of 14-shifts on and 14-shifts off (12 hour days).

Reporting to the Project Manager or designate, initially based on the surface, the General Surface Labourer is responsible for supporting safe and efficient site operations through effective waste management, yard and warehouse support, Integrated Tool operation, and maintenance of critical safety equipment.

This role contributes directly to Barminco's strategic objectives by promoting strong safety standards, environmental compliance, operational readiness, and effective resource management at site level by ensuring surface areas, materials, tools, and monitoring equipment are maintained to Barminco standards. This is an entry level position with opportunity for growth within the Company.

Position Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

Waste Management & GWA Operations

  • Maintain the General Waste Area (GWA) in a clean, organised, and compliant manner.
  • Sort, segregate, and manage non-hazardous and hazardous waste streams in accordance with site environmental and safety requirements.
  • Material handling operating an Integrated Tool (telehandler) to move bins, pallets, and materials within the GWA and yard areas.
  • Assist with scheduled clean-ups and adhoc waste removal across surface areas.
  • Identify and report environmental or safety hazards related to waste handling.

Yardperson & Surface Labour Support

  • Maintain yard areas in a safe, tidy, and operationally efficient condition.
  • Assist with movement, storage, and organisation of materials and equipment.
  • Support warehouse activities as required, including receiving, organising, issuing stock and cycle counts.
  • Carry out general labouring tasks to support site operations.
  • Seasonal Tasks: Removing snow, salting, or managing landscaping duties during changing seasons.

Gas Monitor Issuing & Maintenance

  •  Issue gas monitors to underground personnel in accordance with site procedures.
  • Track and manage gas monitor allocation using siteapproved logs or systems.
  • Clean, inspect, charge, and perform basic functional checks on gas monitoring equipment.
  • Identify faulty or damaged monitors and escalate for repair or replacement.
  • Maintain orderly storage and charging stations for gas monitoring equipment.
  • Assist in cleaning/maintaining mine cap lamps, self-rescuers and respirators in clean and working manner

Bit Sharpening & Tool Support

  • Perform bit sharpening tasks in accordance with training and safety procedures.
  • Inspect tools for wear or damage and report issues as required.

Safety, Compliance & Teamwork

  • Comply with all Barminco safety, health, environmental, and procedural requirements.
  • Actively participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and site training.
  • Operate the Integrated Tool and all equipment in accordance with training, licences, and site procedures.
  • Work cooperatively with operations, warehouse, and underground teams.
  • Maintain accurate records and demonstrate accountability for assigned equipment and areas.
  • Perform thorough pre-starts on any vehicle/equipment being used.
  • Other duties may be assigned by your Supervisor, as required.

 

Skills and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 driver's licence with manual transmission experience preferred.
  • Proven track record of consistently complying with mine site safety standards, procedures, and regulatory requirements, including contributing to a safe work environment for others.
  • Previous related experience in remote mining environment, construction, waste management, or a similar labour-intensive field preferred.
  • Preference given to candidates with Telehandler / Integrated Tool licence or competency.
  • Previous mine site or industrial safety training (WHMIS, TDG, LOTO, etc) preferred.
  • Experience operating an Integrated Tool (telehandler), or the ability and willingness to successfully complete required training.
  • Physically capable of manual handling, yard work, and waste management tasks in an industrial environment.
  • Good organizational skills with the ability to manage equipment issuing and storage.
  • Demonstrated competence in the safe and effective operations of various hand and power tools.
  • Ability to follow procedures and take direction, in English, both written and verbal, from supervisors.
  • Prior experience working both independently and within a team in a fast-paced, rapidly changing, cross-cultural environment with high degree of professionalism and self-motivation.
  • Able to effectively prioritize workload to meet operational deadlines.
  • Must have good radio etiquette and strong communications skills
  • Ability to build and maintain a professional and courteous relationship with employees, subcontractors, the client and all other personnel
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn.
  • Prior experience operating an Integrated Tool, telehandler, or similar mobile equipment is preferred.
  • Preference provided to candidates with experience in mining, construction, industrial, or heavylabour environments.
  • Exposure to waste management, yard operations, or warehouse support preferred.
  • Experience handling or maintaining safety equipment (e.g., gas monitors) beneficial to candidates for this role.
  •  Ability to meet site medical and fitnessforwork requirements.

 

Work Conditions

  • Ability to do shift camp work on a rotational basis, typically the rotations are 2 weeks on site (minimum 12-hour days), followed by 2 weeks off - working statutory holidays as they fall within the rotation 
  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to communicate, sit, stand, walk, climb, reach, push/pull, manipulate objects and work in awkward positions
  • Duties may involve moving materials weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Manual dexterity and good eye-hand coordination are required
  • Extreme weather conditions
  • Noise level in the work environment is moderate to high
