Telecommute Python Web Scraping information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Telecommute Python Web Scraping Specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Telecommute Python Web Scraping Specialist, you need strong Python programming skills, experience with web scraping libraries like BeautifulSoup and Scrapy, and a solid understanding of HTML, CSS, and data formats such as JSON and CSV. Familiarity with version control systems like Git, cloud platforms, and knowledge of handling CAPTCHAs or anti-bot systems are typically required. Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and effective remote communication are crucial soft skills for this role. These competencies ensure efficient data extraction, compliance with legal and ethical standards, and smooth collaboration in a remote work environment.

What are some common challenges faced when working remotely as a Python web scraping specialist, and how can they be addressed?

Remote Python web scraping specialists often encounter challenges like managing asynchronous communication with team members, handling inconsistent website structures, and ensuring compliance with website terms of service. To address these, it's important to establish clear communication channels (such as Slack or regular video calls), maintain detailed documentation, and use robust scraping frameworks that handle website changes gracefully. Additionally, staying updated on legal and ethical guidelines for web scraping is crucial to avoid potential pitfalls.

What are Telecommute Python Web Scraping jobs?

Telecommute Python Web Scraping jobs involve working remotely to develop and maintain scripts or applications that extract data from websites using the Python programming language. Professionals in these roles use libraries such as BeautifulSoup, Scrapy, or Selenium to automate the collection of web data for analysis, business intelligence, or research purposes. The remote aspect allows workers to perform their tasks from any location with internet access, collaborating with teams or clients online. These jobs typically require knowledge of web protocols, HTML, and ethical scraping practices.

Job Description
Overview
CoStar Group is a leading global provider of commercial and residential real estate information, analytics, and online marketplaces. Included in the S&P 500 Index, CoStar Group is on a mission to digitize the world's real estate, empowering all people to discover properties, insights and connections that improve their businesses and lives.
We have been living and breathing the world of real estate information and online marketplaces for over 35 years, giving us the perspective to create truly unique and valuable offerings to our customers. We've continually refined, transformed and perfected our approach to our business, creating a language that has become standard in our industry, for our customers, and even our competitors. We continue that effort today and are always working to improve and drive innovation. This is how we deliver for our customers, our employees, and investors. By equipping the brightest minds with the best resources available, we provide an invaluable edge in real estate.
We are seeking a skilled Edge Security Engineer to join our Product Security team. This role focuses on maintaining and optimizing edge security controls across CoStar's public-facing websites. You will be responsible for managing Akamai Kona WAF configurations, bot mitigation strategies, scraping protections, and other perimeter defenses to ensure high availability and secure access to our platforms.
This position is located in Arlington, VA and is in office Monday through Thursday and work from home on Friday.
Responsibilities
  • Lead CDN Security strategy and operations across CoStar's 50+ high-traffic web properties, including Akamai Kona policy design, tuning to minimize false positives, and protection against OWASP, DDoS, and emerging threat patterns.
  • Drive bot management and anti-scraping across the portfolio. This means policy design, score tuning, and digging into how scrapers are actually getting through, including residential proxy abuse and low-and-slow patterns.
  • Analyze edge traffic patterns to detect anomalies and respond to security incidents.
  • Support secure deployment and scaling of edge security controls across cloud and CDN environments.
  • Provide edge security across 50+ high traffic websites, spanning distinct web tech stacks and threat profiles.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree required from an accredited, not for profit, in person university or college.
  • A track record of commitment to prior employers.
  • 4+ years of experience in edge security, web application security, or managing CDN security platforms such as Akamai, Cloudflare, Imperva, DataDome, Fastly, AWS WAF, or similar technologies for high-traffic web properties. Equivalent depth in another security domain with significant CDN exposure is also considered.
  • Hands-on experience with WAF policy tuning, bot management, and rate limiting on a major CDN platform.
  • Familiarity with OWASP Top 10, API security best practices, and traffic analysis.
  • Ability to collaborate across Product, Security, DevOps, Legal, and development teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to author scripts or automation in Python, JavaScript, or similar languages.
  • Experience with dashboards and log analysis tools such as Akamai WSA, OpenSearch, or Athena.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with both technical and non-technical audiences.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills
  • Hands-on experience across the Akamai security suite, including Kona Site Defender, Bot Manager, Client Reputation, and Site Shield.
  • Experience designing and tuning bot detection across multiple signal types, including device fingerprinting, behavioral analysis, residential proxy detection, and machine learning scoring models.
  • Familiarity with threat intelligence sources and using indicators (IPs, ASNs, fingerprints) to inform edge security policies.
  • Experience leading or supporting security incidents at the edge, including DDoS mitigation, scraping events, or active exploitation of web applications.
  • Scripting and Infrastructure as code proficiency (Python, Terraform, Ansible, etc.) for automation and reporting.
  • Understanding how edge security integrates with origin infrastructure across public and private clouds.
  • Familiarity with compliance frameworks (NIST, ISO 27001, PCI DSS).
