What You’ll Do in the Role
Morgan Stanley Services Group, Inc. is seeking a Vice President, Software Engineer to work on the continuous evolution of the risk management system to support regulatory changes, new business initiatives, and increased efficiency. Responsibilities include designing and architecting Risk Calculator platform modules that meet complex business requirements for large hedge fund and institutional clients, architecting solutions that process and compute risk for a wide range of asset classes, and integrating advanced simulation engines to forecast portfolio risks under hypothetical market scenarios, supporting stress testing and “what-if” analyses. The role involves working on systems capable of managing and processing millions of risk metrics daily, leveraging distributed computing and scalable architectures to ensure performance and reliability. Tasks also include translating complex business processes and financial product knowledge into actionable technical solutions through collaboration with business stakeholders, designing and implementing interfaces for automated risk reporting, margin calculation, and integration with upstream/downstream systems for both real‑time and batch processing, and ensuring the risk management platform adheres to industry regulations. The position also requires providing hands‑on guidance, code reviews, and mentorship to development teams, fostering best practices in software engineering, design patterns, and system scalability. Telecommuting is permitted up to one day per week.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Engineering (any), or a related field.
- Five (5) years of experience in a senior software engineering or related technology role, including Java/Scala development.
- Five (5) years of experience with high-performance, low-latency distributed systems; Java; Python; Spring Boot; SQL, NoSQL, and hybrid databases; microservices architecture; Docker; Kubernetes; Kafka; and real-time streaming data processing with sub‑millisecond execution performance tuning.
- Three (3) years of experience with cloud‑native deployments, including AWS or Azure.
- Two (2) years of experience with stress testing; Price Value of 01 (PV01); trade lifecycle workflows in equities, fixed income, and derivatives; and Value at Risk (VaR).
Benefits & Compensation
Expected base pay for the role will be between $190,000 and $210,000 per year at the commencement of employment. Total compensation may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, short- and long-term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley-sponsored benefit programs.
