Job ResponsibilitiesThis employee will be responsible for working collaboratively with geospatial professionals in all divisions on geospatial projects and providing knowledge to agency staff who use geospatial technologies to address natural resources problems.Job Duties Include:
- Advanced geospatial data editing for SCDNR authoritative datasets within the ArcGIS Enterprise environment:
- Utilizing ArcGIS Pro tools to support advanced editing of geometry and attribute data from the enterprise database and web services published to the SCDNR Portal and ArcGIS Online to improve data quality for internal and external applications including but not limited to python scripts and arcade attribute rules.
- Using intermediate knowledge of cartographic design to develop high quality digital, web-based, paper maps, and other geospatial products that are requested by SCDNR programs, while being in alignment with SCDNR's best practices and protocols.
- Meeting required deadlines to best support the needs of the agency.
- Assisting with the development and support of new and existing web mapping applications to ensure that the information communicated is accurate and relevant, and that they are functioning as intended.
- Facilitating the collection of field data through direct participation and/or creating the framework to help field workers collect data reliably and accurately through Esri's online environment.
- Performing advanced-level geographic information analysis that utilizes resources such as aerial photography, survey notes, records, and reports to support agency decision-making through solving dynamic problems. This includes the research and knowledge of a wide range of geospatial tools available in the Esri ArcGIS environments and other related environments. This also includes the research and development of Python scripts, Arcade expressions, model builder, and other programming languages to automate tasks, generate products, update data, and provide efficiency to support the needs of the divisions of SCDNR and to provide the public with well-organized and accurate natural resources geospatial data.
- Contributing to and supporting the geospatial team's ongoing efforts to promote the value of geospatial technologies with SCDNR Staff.
- Developing, maintaining, and improving the capabilities of SCDNR's drone operations.
- Assisting with the overall administration and improvement efforts, as well as the goals and responsibilities of the section.
Minimum and Additional RequirementsAn associate degree in a related field, or a high school diploma, accompanied with relevant work experience applying Geographic Information Systems to projects in natural resources, environmental science, conservation, or similar areas. This experience should demonstrate a solid understanding of GIS principles and the ability to contribute independently to geospatial projects.
Preferred QualificationsGIS Professional (GISP) certification and/or sUAS Remote Pilot license preferred but not required. Knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, policies, and procedures. Ability to exercise judgement and discretion. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and with internal and external stakeholders. Knowledge of intermediate geospatial concepts, geospatial data, software, and cartographic design along with terminology used in conveying geographical information. Ability to troubleshoot hardware and/or software-related issues. Ability to develop scripts using various programming languages to automate the repetitive tasks that ensure high levels of data integrity. Ability to develop drone flight plans and execute those plans to create useful aerial imagery to increase efficiency to better meet the goals established by the agency.
