Position Summary
The City of Manassas is seeking an experienced Telecommunications Engineer II or III to support and maintain the City's enterprise network and telecommunications. This position plays a critical role in ensuring reliable, secure, and high-performing technology systems that support City operations and emergency services. Our team's skillsets continually grow and change with the introduction of new technology and challenges.

The rates for this position are:
  • IT Telecommunications Engineer III: $39.57 - $54.41/hour
  • IT Telecommunications Engineer II: $37.68 - $51.82/hour

Essential Job Functions
This is what you'll do ...
  • Design, implement, maintain, troubleshoot, and support enterprise network and telecommunications systems.
  • Administer and support the City's Mitel phone system, voicemail, VoIP infrastructure, and related telecommunications services.
  • Configure and maintain network infrastructure, including routers, switches, wireless access points, VLANs, ACLs, fiber optic and copper cabling, and leased data circuits.
  • Monitor network and system performance, security, and availability while assisting with disaster recovery planning and implementation.
  • Provide Tier II/III technical support for Windows users through the City's IT help desk, resolving complex technical issues and documenting work in the ticketing system.
  • Support non-emergency public safety communications systems, audio logging systems, and related communication devices.
  • Manage network and telecommunications assets, coordinate equipment purchases, maintain inventory, and work with vendors to resolve hardware and software issues.
  • Lead or participate in technology implementation projects, coordinate contractors, monitor project progress, and ensure successful deployment of new systems.
  • Prepare technical documentation, maintain system records, and provide technical guidance and training to City staff.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation to support critical City technology systems outside normal business hours.

Minimum Required Qualifications
IT Telecommunications Engineer III
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field; supplemented by six (6) years of experience in network technical support and/or telecommunications programming; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must have successfully completed required courses and certifications; may be required to obtain additional certification(s) as deemed necessary by the City.

IT Telecommunications Engineer II
  • Associates' degree in Computer Science or related field; supplemented by four (4) years of experience in network technical support and/or telecommunications programming; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must have successfully completed required courses and certifications; may be required to obtain additional certification(s) as deemed necessary by the City.

Special Requirements
Must possess a valid Virginia's driver's license
