Job description

1. Responsible for providing good customer service as the front line support

staff for the laboratory, accountable for communicating in a positive and

friendly manner with all patients, clients and visitors, in person and on

the telephone. Patients privacy must always be considered when communi-

cating at all laboratory sites. Phone conversations with client offices

regarding patient information and results must always be handled

confidentially.

2. Receives patients and visitors into the laboratory, obtaining pertinent

information for those waiting for bloodwork, in a confidential and

helpful manner.

3. Admits patient information, demographics and insurance information into

the Meditech System, or any future LIS utilized by this laboratory.

4. Takes phone orders from physicians for walk in, homedraws and nursing

home patients.

5. Transfers physicians test orders for the patient into the LIS on correct

patient account. Must be familiar with test mnemonics and special test

requirement so they may be relayed to the phlebotomist on the

requisition.

6. Verbally instruct patients on collecting specimens at home and pretest

requirements, ie., withholding medications, fasting, etc.

7. File reference lab results and enter results in LIS when necessary.

8. Takes payments from patients and prepares receipts for patients to meet

insurer's standards, and records payments into daily ledgers.

9. Prepares bank deposits.

10. Files reports and requisitions, distributes mail and other correspondence

in house, and transfers phone call and takes messages.

11. Prints reports for telecom sites, and troubleshoots problems with reports

that have not printed at individual sites.

12. Assists in obtaining proper diagnoses and Medicare waivers when necessary

for all accounts.

13. Responsible to work as a team with all of C-LAB staff and with the staffs

of the related laboratories.

14. Responsible for general cleanliness of the reception area and front

office. Responsible for keeping office supplies stocked and do

general maintenance on office equipment, fax machine, printers,

and copy machines.

15. Other related duties as directed by management team.

  • Two years experience as a medical secretary; or an Associate degree with one year of experience in a healthcare setting; or one year internal clinically related experience. 
  • Computer and keyboarding skills required. 
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
