Job description

As a Broadband Technician I, you will perform basic installations, disconnects and service changes for residential and business customers. These services include, but are not limited to, video service, HSD Services, and home phone service and installation. This role performs basic troubleshooting from the tap to the customer's electronic devices (TV, DVD, Modem etc.). This position will assist with installing, splicing, repairing and maintaining aerial, buried, and/or underground fiber optic and copper cable.

Due to in-field support and on-call requirements, the individual selected for this position will be required to reside within a 60-minute driving distance from the St George, UT warehouse located at: 314 N 3050 E Ste A1, Saint George, UT 84790.

The anticipated shift for this role will be Tuesday through Saturday, 8am-5pm with a call rotation required.

This position can be hired at either a Broadband Technician I (requisition ID #2026-29773), Broadband Technician II (requisition ID #2026-29774) level depending on the skills and qualifications of the candidate. Different job postings exist for each of these positions. Please reference each job posting for the minimum qualifications required for each role and submit an application for each level that you are both interested and qualified for. 

This position is covered under a collective bargaining agreement (CBA). Terms and conditions of employment, including pay, benefits, and work rules, are governed by that agreement.

Responsibilities
  • Performs connects (new connects and reconnects), disconnects (requested and non-pays), upgrades, downgrades, and relocates; installs additional outlets and installs or removes equipment (i.e. converters).
  • Performs basic installation of all necessary cable wiring (interior and exterior) and hardware from the tap to the customer's equipment for reception of cable and other company services that are offered for single and multi-family.
    • This may include burial of underground Broadband facilities utilizing different methods of placement, including excavation or hand digging for the placement of drop facilities to customer premise, streets and right of way and placement of conduit to customer premise, in streets and the right of ways as well as pulling of hardline into conduits after placement of conduits. Position may also be responsible for placement of conduit structure in new subdivision joint trench construction projects.
  • Performs all work as necessary to conform to quality control guidelines (includes compliance with requirements outlined in applicable regulations such as: OSHA, FCC, NEC and NESC).
  • Assures proper signal levels and picture quality on all television sets and cleans the premises of all debris and material after installation is complete.
  • Monitors and records system, drop, and in-house leakage; properly records all required information on work orders, surveys, referrals, etc.
  • Promotes cable, internet, and other company services; educates customer on proper use of the service, including how to add additional services, channel lineups, proper equipment usage, and other services that are available

  • Must have and maintain a valid driver's license
  • Must follow the TDS attendance guidelines in order to meet TDS's business needs including but not limited to our obligations to our customers and to our customers' needs.

Other Qualifications

  • Upon hire, must successfully complete customer-specific requirements, which may include a background check administered by the customer.
  • Requires being available for on-call/standby responsibilities and may require occasional travel. Must be willing to work overtime as needed.
  • Upon hire, must successfully pass all components of the Safety Course curriculum.
  • Ability to maintain DOT (Department of Transportation) requirements in relation to operating vehicles with a combined GVRW (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating) of >10,000 lbs.
  • Reliable and responsible, with a strong work ethic dedicated to a team.
  • Practical knowledge/experience with computer applications.
  • Familiarity with company products and services.
  • Proven organizational skills and ability to multi-task.
  • Demonstrated customer service and sales skills, as well as effective communications skills (verbal and written) for interaction with internal and external customers.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment.
  • Physical requirements may vary based on company needs: Ability to dig, lift and climb.
  • Successful completion of the SCTE Broadband Premise Install test within the first 3 months of employment.
