Job description

CAD Drafter

Job Type: 6 Month Contract

Pay: $20–$22/hour

Schedule: 100% Onsite

About the Role

We are looking for a CAD Drafter to support the design and construction of utility infrastructure. In this role, you’ll work closely with engineers and project managers to turn specifications and existing plans into accurate technical drawings that field crews can use during construction.

This is a great opportunity for someone with hands-on CAD, drafting, utility, or GIS experience who enjoys technical work and takes pride in getting the details right.

What You’ll Do

  • Create and update detailed technical drawings using AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or similar design and mapping tools.
  • Interpret blueprints, existing drawings, maps, and project specifications.
  • Draft layouts showing conduit, cable, utility infrastructure, property lines, measurements, and existing structures.
  • Review drawings for accuracy, including dimensions, layers, measurements, and notation.
  • Work with engineers, project managers, and field teams to ensure drawings accurately reflect project requirements.
  • Make updates to drawings based on field information, design changes, and project feedback.

What You’ll Bring

  • Hands-on experience with at least one of the following:
  • AutoCAD
  • Civil 3D
  • Utility or GIS-related work, including utility mapping, as-builts, ArcGIS/ESRI, GPS/field data collection, right-of-way, or permitting maps.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, or maps.
  • Strong attention to detail and a consistent process for checking your own work.
  • Ability to understand spatial relationships and translate technical information into accurate drawings.
  • Reliable work ethic and ability to complete assignments independently.
  • Internship, professional, or relevant personal project experience is acceptable.

What We’re Looking For

The ideal candidate is someone who is technically curious, dependable, and enjoys working with detailed systems. Experience with hands-on projects such as PC building, automotive work, woodworking, home improvement, electronics, robotics, 3D printing, CNC, or other mechanical projects can be a strong indicator of the problem-solving mindset needed for this role.

Most importantly, candidates should be able to speak to a specific drawing, map, or project they personally created or contributed to using CAD, GIS, or utility-related tools.
