Job description

Assistant Robotics Team Coach Valparaiso High Schoolย 

Qualifications:ย 

  • A valid state teacher license is preferred but not required
  • Previous coaching experience is preferred but not required
  • Knowledge and background in technical, engineering, or STEM related field
  • Experience using basic hand and power tools
  • Experience in basic programming Python and/or C++ is preferred but not requiredย 

Job Goal: To support the Valparaiso High School Head VEX Robotics coach in achieving the goals of the VEX V5 Robotics program as outlined by the Valparaiso High School, the Robotics Education & Competition Foundation (RECF), and the TechPoint Foundation for Youth (when applicable).ย 

Job Description: The Valparaiso High School Assistant VEX Robotics Coach will work under the direct supervision of the Valparaiso High School Head VEX Robotics Coach to help guide and mentor student robotics teams. Responsibilities include assisting with team practices, assist in managing team logistics, supporting students in their technical development, and attending all regular season qualifying and invitational tournaments to ensure the success of all students in the program.ย 

Expectations:ย 

  1. Maintain high standards as a teacher, coach, and instructor while advocating the District's skills, mission, and objectives.
  2. Assist in maintaining an environment that emphasizes and promotes sportsmanship, fairness, team collaboration, student integrity, and prioritizing educational and personal growth over competitive results.
  3. Maintain effective communication with students, parents, and the Head Coach.
  4. Assist with all logistical tasks to facilitate the organization of all high school competition teams (register with REC, hold team tryouts and practice, order team shirts, organize and sign up for all team competitions, establish a team calendar, organize transportation to each event, collect permission slips, etc.)
  5. Assist in preparing for and supervising regular team practices (minimum two times per week)
  6. Supervise students during the use of handheld tools and machines, ensuring proper safety protocols are followed at all times.
  7. Attend all team tournaments, events, and invitational competitions to provide guidance and support to the team.
  8. Attend and actively participate in parent meetings to support communication between the robotics program and families.
  9. Assist with grant writing and sponsorship outreach efforts when applicable.
  10. Help organize and participate in fundraising events to support the team's day-to-day objectives and growth.
  11. Assist with the inventory and maintaining all new and used robotics equipment and supplies.
  12. Ensure all materials are organized and ready for use during team practices and competitions.
  13. Commit to continuous learning in STEM and Robotics-Related areas.ย 

Compensation: As per the VCS Master Contract
