POSITION OVERVIEW:

This Counter Sales and Warehouse hybrid-position will perform a range of functions involved primarily supporting walk-in customers at the sales counter and inside and outside sales, as needed. This position is responsible for working closely with Branch Managers in activities including but not limited to product sales, product offerings, marketing promotions that reinforce the branch’s strategic goals. This individual must have the ability to communicate, orally and in writing, in a professional manner when dealing with customers, employees, vendors, and other branch contacts. Additionally, approximately 35% of the time will be focused on general warehouse duties described more in detail below.

We have a need for a Counter Sales team member. Counter Sales associates are an essential part of Transtar’s distribution network. WHAT YOU WILL DO WITH YOUR TALENTS: 

  • Assists customers in determining and selecting appropriate parts. Provides price quotes and other parts information.
  • Informs customers of specials and companion part requirements, ensuring that the customer is exposed to the full product line.
  • Represents branch in a professional manner, remaining friendly and courteous in all customer and coworker interactions.
  • Pulls and fills parts orders from stock. Prepares orders for daily shipment, delivery, or pick up.
  • Inspects cores received from customers. Tags for return to vendor. Issues customer credit upon receipt of credit from vendor.
  • Notifies manager of out-of-stock parts or other department materials that require immediate attention. Locates out-of-stock parts from external sources and submits emergency orders, as necessary.
  • Notifies customers of receipt of special order parts. Informs customers of parts order arrival and delivery date.
  • Verifies will-call and back orders weekly and returns to vendors. Follows up on back orders.
  • Provides customers with their copy of invoices. Receives payment for retail purchases. Obtains credit authorizations or required signatures for charge sales.
  • Issues credits for returned parts after verifying purchase and pricing by reviewing original invoice.
  • Participates in annual physical inventory.
  • Assists Branch Manager with maintaining lost sales tracking program.
  • Keeps front counter and parts areas clean and free of clutter. Performs weekly branch cleaning in cooperation with the rest of the branch staff.
  • Stays informed of new products and product updates.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Additional responsibilities included (35% of time):

  • Pull and fill stock order for outgoing deliveries.
  • Separate, label, and verify the count of incoming freight deliveries.
  • Package finished product for shipping (shrink wrapping, boxing, and labeling)
  • Some overtime work may be scheduled and required
  • Operate Varsity Ship desk
  • Performs other duties as assigned. 

 WHAT YOU WILL BRING:

  • Background in vehicle parts knowledge, automotive part fitment, OEM and competitive part evaluation, preferred.
  • Prior experience with automotive part interchanges, preferred.
  • Ability to work on and lead cross-functional teams.
  • Work experience in a distribution and technical environment, preferred.
  • Excellent computer skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Programs.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills. Bilingual skills in Spanish are a plus.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • 1 - 3 years of work-related experience (auto parts sales a plus).
  • Excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Bilingual skills in Spanish are a plus.
  • Experience using MS Office software products.
  • AS 400 / JD Edwards experience or similar ERP a plus.
  • Experience working in a warehouse setting and counter sales 
  • Experience working with Varsity ship a plus, but not required
