Job description

Purpose and Impact:

The purpose of this position is to provide support to the Systems Integration & Instrumentation Section, Code 5524, at the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory, in Washington, DC.

This position will provide technical engineering support for the characterization of Low Earth Orbital Satellite communications and explore performance and architectural options to inform the Government on the application of such communication link in Live, Virtual and Constructive training scenarios. Additionally, similar communications engineering expertise will be used to support the installation and testing of enhanced commercial 5G telecommunications infrastructure to support the sharing of the spectrum bands with DoW incumbent systems that may include radars, sensors and communications equipment. Tasks such as setting up backhaul networks, router/switch configuration and characterizing their performance will be required. The ability to collect, correlate and analyze data to establish performance and operational characteristics is required. Documentation and reporting of the work and the salient results in technical reports, refereed publications is necessary. Developing and presenting the work to technical peers and to senior oversight is a desirable skill that should be developed if not already possessed.

Work Schedule: 9-5. 8 hours, on site during peak hours unless otherwise approved.

  • Knowledge of network and wireless communications technology and protocols.

Clearance Required:

  • Secret, once initial paperwork is completed and submitted to DOD, candidate can begin working at NRL after NRL badging paperwork is completed and approved.
