What are tech jobs?

Tech jobs refer to roles within the technology sector, involving the development, implementation, and maintenance of computer systems, software, hardware, and networks. These jobs can range from software engineers and data analysts to IT support specialists and cybersecurity experts. Tech jobs are found across many industries and often require problem-solving skills, technical knowledge, and adaptability to rapidly changing technologies. Many positions offer remote work options and competitive salaries, making tech a popular and dynamic career field.

How does a tech professional typically collaborate with other departments within a company?

Tech professionals frequently work alongside teams from various departments such as marketing, sales, and operations to develop, implement, and support technology solutions that drive business goals. This often involves participating in cross-functional meetings, gathering user requirements, explaining technical concepts to non-technical colleagues, and troubleshooting issues together. Effective communication and teamwork are essential, as Tech professionals act as a bridge between technical and business teams. This collaborative approach ensures that technical solutions are aligned with organizational needs and enhances overall project success.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a tech professional, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Tech professional, you need a solid understanding of computer science fundamentals, problem-solving abilities, and often a relevant degree or certification. Familiarity with programming languages, development frameworks, and tools like Git, cloud platforms, or specific software systems is frequently required. Strong communication, teamwork, and adaptability help you collaborate across projects and quickly learn new technologies. These skills are crucial for staying effective in a rapidly evolving industry and delivering successful technology solutions.

Job description

Join Our Growing Team!

Hometown Pediatrics & Watchung Pediatrics is looking for a hands-on IT Manager to lead technology support and operations across its growing pediatric practice.

We are looking for someone who enjoys solving problems, taking ownership, and making technology work better for the people who use it. This role will support approximately 150 team-members across five office locations and will have significant responsibility for the day-to-day technology environment.

This can be a great fit for either an experienced IT support professional ready to take the next step or a more senior systems administrator who has previously owned an organization's IT environment.

ABOUT THE ROLE

You'll be responsible for keeping our technology reliable, secure, organized, and easy for our doctors and staff to use.

Responsibilities will include:

Serve as the primary point of contact for day-to-day IT support across our offices

Troubleshoot computers, printers, scanners, Wi-Fi, phones, applications, and other office technology

Configure and deploy computers and equipment for new and existing employees

Manage employee onboarding and offboarding, accounts, permissions, and access

Administer our Windows devices, Google Workspace environment, and other business applications

Manage endpoint software, updates, patching, security tools, and device configurations

Maintain an accurate inventory of computers and other IT equipment

Support and troubleshoot office networks, including internet connectivity, Wi-Fi, switches, firewalls, and related equipment

Coordinate with internet providers, telecommunications providers, cybersecurity partners, and other technology vendors

Support Athenahealth and other healthcare applications from an IT and systems perspective

Maintain clear documentation of systems, networks, vendors, administrative access, and recurring IT processes

Identify recurring technology problems and develop better, more standardized solutions

Help establish consistent technology standards across all Watchung Pediatrics locations

Assist with technology planning and setup for new offices and future growth

Depending on experience, this role may also take broader ownership of our IT infrastructure, network architecture, cybersecurity program, vendor strategy, and overall IT roadmap.

QUALIFICATIONS

3+ years of hands-on IT support, systems administration, infrastructure, or related experience

Strong troubleshooting skills across computers, applications, networks, and office technology

Experience supporting Windows environmentsExperience administering Google Workspaces

Familiarity with endpoint management, MDM, RMM, patch management, or similar tools

Working knowledge of networking fundamentals including Wi-Fi, DNS, DHCP, switches, firewalls, and VPNs

Experience managing user accounts, permissions, MFA, and application access

Strong organizational and documentation skills

Ability to independently investigate and solve unfamiliar technical problems

Strong communication skills and a service-oriented approach to supporting employees

Willingness to travel between our New Jersey offices (required)

NICE TO HAVE

Experience working at a Managed Service Provider (MSP)

Experience serving as the primary IT resource for a small or mid-sized organization

Healthcare IT experience

Athenahealth or other electronic medical record experience

Experience with cybersecurity tools, endpoint detection and response, or security monitoring

Experience administering firewalls and business networks

Experience supporting a multi-location organization

Certifications and degrees are helpful, but demonstrated technical ability, judgment, and ownership matter more to us.

You’ll Be a Great Fit If You:

Enjoy being the person people turn to when something isn't working

Are comfortable working independently and figuring things out

Take ownership of problems through resolution rather than simply escalating them

Can communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical teammates

Like creating organized, standardized systems rather than relying on one-off fixes

Are equally comfortable thinking about the bigger IT environment and troubleshooting a computer that won't connect to a printer

Look for opportunities to automate, simplify, and improve how things work

Care about providing responsive, thoughtful support to your coworkers
