What is a tech lead?

Tech Leads are experienced software engineers who guide the technical direction of a team or project. They are responsible for overseeing the architecture, code quality, and technical decisions while collaborating closely with developers, product managers, and other stakeholders. In addition to their hands-on coding responsibilities, Tech Leads mentor team members, help resolve technical challenges, and ensure that development best practices are followed. Their role is crucial in balancing technical excellence with timely delivery of features.

How does a tech lead balance hands-on technical work with leadership responsibilities?

As a Tech Lead, you'll often split your time between coding, architecture decisions, and providing technical guidance to your team. Balancing these responsibilities requires strong time management, as you'll be expected to contribute to critical codebases while also mentoring junior developers, facilitating code reviews, and aligning technical decisions with business goals. Many organizations support Tech Leads with agile ceremonies and clear delegation, ensuring you can remain technically involved while empowering others to grow. Open communication and collaboration with product managers and stakeholders are also key for success in this role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a tech lead, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Tech Lead, you need deep technical expertise in software development, strong problem-solving abilities, and typically a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with project management tools (such as Jira or Trello), version control systems (like Git), and relevant programming languages or frameworks is essential. Leadership, effective communication, and mentoring skills help a Tech Lead guide teams and foster collaboration. These skills ensure the delivery of high-quality technical solutions while supporting team growth and project success.

Job description

About MTC
Moro Technology Corporation is a global technology partner committed to delivering innovative digital solutions that empower businesses to thrive in an increasingly connected world. With a strong foundation in Japan and a growing international presence, MTC specializes in building cutting-edge software and digital infrastructure that bridge cultures and drive transformation across industries.
Guided by a mission to shape the future with technology and creativity, the company fosters collaboration across borders, emphasizing excellence, adaptability, and long-term value creation.
About the role
We are looking for a Technology Lead to help shape and translate business demand into scalable, executable technology solutions. This role exists at the intersection of business demand, enterprise technology, and delivery execution. You will act as the technical counterpart to business and delivery leadership teams, leading technical discovery, orchestrating cross-functional solution discussions, and aligning global engineering capabilities to build coherent and delivery-ready approaches. The Technology Lead is not a pure architecture, delivery management, or engineering management role. It is a solution shaping and technical orchestration role focused on enabling scalable execution across distributed teams, platforms, and capability areas. You will work directly with senior stakeholders, customers, capability leads, and engineering teams to define integrated solution approaches, align delivery capabilities, and reduce technical ambiguity across global programs and initiatives. This is an opportunity to shape how enterprise technology solutions are defined and operationalized at scale within a globally distributed delivery ecosystem.
On a given day, you will:
  • Partner with business and delivery leadership teams to understand incoming business and technology demand
  • Translate business requirements into scalable, executable technical solution approaches
  • Lead technical discovery workshops, architecture discussions, and solution definition sessions with stakeholders and engineering teams
  • Assess technical feasibility, identify dependencies, and surface execution risks early during demand intake and planning
  • Orchestrate cross-functional solution discussions across multiple engineering, platform, and delivery capability areas, aligning teams into coherent and executable solution approaches
  • Define high-level solution structures, integration approaches, assumptions, and technical delivery considerations
  • Ensure proposed solutions are scalable, supportable, and aligned with enterprise architecture and operational standards
  • Act as a trusted technical advisor during customer and stakeholder engagements
  • Collaborate with globally distributed teams across APAC, EMEA, and the Americas to align execution readiness and technical direction
  • Enable scalable and standardized engineering approaches across delivery teams and capability areas
  • Bridge the transition between solution shaping and delivery execution by clarifying technical intent, dependencies, and priorities
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of technical standards, reusable frameworks, and solution governance practices

Requirements
In order to be successful in this role you will need:
  • 10+ years of experience in enterprise technology delivery, solution architecture, technical consulting, or engineering leadership roles
  • Proven experience shaping enterprise technology solutions across multiple platforms, systems, or capability areas
  • Strong understanding of enterprise architecture, integration, and scalable delivery models
  • Experience working within global delivery, capability center, or distributed engineering models
  • Strong ability to lead enterprise-level technical discussions across business, engineering, and delivery stakeholders
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
  • Experience operating in complex, cross-functional, and customer-facing environments

Amazing if you have:
  • Experience in automotive, OEM, or large-scale industrial environments
  • Exposure to global delivery hub models or Centers of Excellence (COEs)
  • Experience with enterprise platforms, cloud ecosystems, or large-scale integrations

Benefits
Why Join MTC?
At MTC, we invest in our people as much as we do in technology. This is more than a job; it's a chance to build something extraordinary. By joining us, you can expect:
