What is a teaspoon?

A teaspoon is a small kitchen utensil used primarily for measuring or serving small quantities of ingredients, especially in cooking and baking. In recipes, 'teaspoon' often refers to a unit of measurement, abbreviated as 'tsp,' equal to about 4.9 milliliters in the United States. Teaspoons are commonly used for both dry and liquid ingredients and are part of most standard measuring spoon sets. They are also used as cutlery for stirring beverages or eating desserts. The exact size of a teaspoon can vary between countries, so it's important to use standardized measuring spoons when following recipes.
