The Associate Professor's primary role is to teach in their areas of expertise, maintain the integrity of course and instructional programs, and to ensure that their delivery is in alignment with the University mission and vision for the student experience. As such, faculty are responsible for creating an academic atmosphere of mutual respect and consideration for individual dignity. Faculty members may be asked to aid in the development of curriculum in the residential and distance education environments, as well as engage in research/scholarship or creative activity that varies depending upon the expectations of their respective college or school and any additional activities involving service to students and their professional discipline.
Faculty attain the rank of Associate Professor based upon scholarly and professional achievements subsequent to attaining the rank of assistant professor. An earned doctoral degree from an accredited institution in an area relevant to the faculty member's area of teaching or a terminal professional master's degree or evidence of outstanding contributions in the faculty member's professional or academic field (e.g., as recognized by one's peers, nationally) is required.
Associate Professors are contracted for 10, 11, or 12 months (24, 27, or 30 load hours, respectively). Release from contracted teaching load is determined each semester by the Dean, per the Liberty University Faculty Handbook.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES1. Position will support the DNP /Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Program including teaching responsibilities in one or more of the following: residential classroom /executive format which may include lab, online courses, clinical and practicum instruction/supervision, student advising, scholarship, student projects and clinical practice.
2. Collaborates with the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) Lead Faculty, Practicum Coordinator, Advisor, Faculty Support Coordinator and ultimately, the Chair of Doctoral Studies, Nursing to support the PMHNP/Doctor of Nursing Practice Program, and PMHNP Practicum Courses and scholarly projects.
3. Provides direct and indirect practicum supervision to designated students, consistent with the program and course learning objectives that includes advising, supervising, and evaluating PMHNP practicum students.
4. Provides direct support to PMHNP and Family Practice Practicum Lead Faculty though the grading of practicum assignments of designated students.
5. Serves as the primary liaison on behalf of Liberty University School of Nursing between the Practicum Preceptor and Practicum Course Lead Faculty.
6. Conducts evaluation of designated practicum students in the practicum setting at least once during each practicum course. This may include site visits, or collaboration and dialog with student and preceptor via email, electronic communications or in-person. This evaluation will evaluate the site, preceptor and student's ability to meet practicum requirements and student learning objectives.
7. Additional duties as assigned.
The candidate must have experience in graduate level instruction, scholarship, and clinical experience with PMHNP students. Candidate must be active in clinical practice. Position will include opportunities to participate in nursing department and university responsibilities. Candidate should have excellent personal communication and computer skills. Candidates must be committed to the evangelical standards and mission of Liberty University.
QUALIFICATIONS AND CREDENTIALSEducation and Experience- Graduate degree in nursing with preparation as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP).
- Preferred degree: DNP or PhD
- Current and unencumbered Virginia Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse license.
- National Certification as a PMHNP from the ANCC or AANP.
- Current clinical practice in the role of PMHNP.
- Candidate will be professional with excellent personal communication and computer skills.
- 5 years of experience as a PMHNP in a direct-care setting.
- Current certification in American Heart Association CPR for Healthcare Provider with AED.
- In addition to the PMHNP certification, hold a certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner.
- Experience teaching at the graduate level.
- Experience in practicum /student supervision.
- Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing to convey clear, well articulated information.
- Ability to understand, speak, and write English in order to convey messages and correspond in an articulate and professional manner.
- Possess public communication skills that allow professional representation of Liberty University to a variety of business and community customers and associates.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Excellent computer skills.
