Job Description and Responsibilities:

The Classroom Behavioral Health Technician/Teaching Assistant (TA) reports directly to the assigned Lead Classroom Teacher. The TA is responsible for providing support in the classroom learning environment.

Daily Responsibilities Include:

• Working with students, either individually or in groups, in the following specialized

domains: Social skills, dressing, toilet training, eating, self-management, theory of mind,

language and communication, and play skills

• Facilitating academic work in all developmentally appropriate subject areas (art,

community based instruction, health and physical education, literacy, math, music,

science, and social studies)

• Working with other staff members in a team-driven environment and following the instructions of the Lead Classroom Teacher

• Communicating effectively with parents and other staff members

• Learning each student’s method of communication (verbal, written, augmentative, etc.)

and providing a safe environment for each student to express him or herself

• Learning and implementing each student’s customized education plan, in accordance

with strategies determined by Victory Academy’s consulting specialists and teachers

• Willingness to adapt/modify/differentiate both personal and academic interactions with

students based on individual student need and the ever-changing classroom climate

• Assisting in the collection and recording of student data (both in formative and summative

assessments)

• Meeting all work-related deadlines, including goal documents, behavior support plans, lesson plans, staff surveys, and related items. In addition, adhering to time sensitive projects, trainings, and tasks (such as collaborative project work, curriculum reviews, etc.). 

Other Primary Responsibilities Include:

• Attending parent meetings, when requested

• Attending weekly staff meetings and trainings (Wednesday afternoons)

• Attending and participating in Victory’s annual inservice training (August/September)

• Maintaining strict confidentiality regarding each student's customized education plan

and other related records

• Performing other duties, as assigned and appropriate

Physical Responsibilities Include:

• Lifting/boosting children during recess and play times

• Assisting in general classroom and building maintenance (vacuuming, taking out

garbage, and assigned after school building jobs)

• Using hand over hand instruction to facilitate fine motor activities (typing and/or writing

with students)

• Working with students during times of escalated behaviors (throwing objects, tantrums,

etc.)

• Lifting items between 20-30 pounds

Requirements:

The Minimum Qualifications for this Position Are:

• Successful experience working in a classroom-based setting, including preschools,

kindergartens, and/or other-age classrooms

• Successful experience with children with unique learning differences, including but not

limited to Autism, Developmental Motor Dyspraxia, Apraxia of Speech, and Sensory

Integration Disorder

• General understanding of Applied Behavior Analysis, Social Cognition, Executive

Functioning Strategies, Sensory Integration Techniques, the GFCF Diet, and Biomedical

Strategies

• Understanding of fine and gross motor skills in children and teens

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• Love of children and teens, patience, compassion, energy, humor, inventiveness,

initiative, and reliability

Other Requirements:

• Registering with the Oregon Criminal History Registry
• Safety Care Training (provided by Victory Academy)
• Current CPR/First Aid Card
• Current Food Handler’s License
• Child abuse detection education (link provided by Victory Academy upon hire)
