Hiawatha Academies is hiring multiple network-wide Reserve Teachers to provide coverage for both short-term and long-term teacher absences aross three campuses!
Job Summary
Network Reserve Teachers are full-time, network-based staff who travel between three campuses to cover daily teacher absences across the network at our elementary, middle and high school locations. Designed for aspiring educators who are seeking a structured, supportive pathway into classroom teaching. This position provides consistent instructional experience, coaching, and immersion in Hiawatha Academies' academic program and school culture while ensuring continuity of high-quality instruction during teacher absences.
Network Building Reserve Teachers lead rigorous, standards-aligned lessons by following established lesson plans, maintaining strong classroom culture, and supporting scholars' academic and social-emotional development. When not serving as the lead instructor, reserve teachers may support small-group instruction, interventions, or enrichment, allowing for continued skill-building and relationship development with scholars and staff.
Working closely with teachers, paraeducators, and campus leadership, Network Reserve Teachers develop instructional practice, classroom management skills, and professional readiness. This role is intentionally designed as a stepping stone toward a future full-time teaching position at Hiawatha Academies for individuals who demonstrate strong performance, growth, and alignment with our mission to close the opportunity gap and ensure a great school for every child.

Hiawatha Employment Logistics
  • Network Reserve Teachers will be assigned to a "home base" and will follow the Instructional Leaders Calendar and will be required to attend Network Professional Development while also attending some campus based professional development when assigned.
  • Hiawatha Leadership Academy Northrop Elementary School Staff hours are 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday-Friday.
  • Hiawatha College Prep Middle school Staff hours are 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday-Friday.
  • Hiawatha Collegiate High School Staff hours are 8:15 a.m. - 4:15 p.m. Monday-Friday.
  • All Hiawatha staff are expected to attend and participate in relevant evening family events to be held at the school according to the HAWU collective bargaining agreement.
