Position Overview:

The Teacher Assistant is responsible for assisting in the implementation of program activities of the classroom while also assisting in the performance of the daily tasks that establish the basic foundation for a healthy and safe environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the preparation, implementation, and supervision of meaningful activities that

    are developmentally appropriate and meet the intellectual, social, emotional, and physical needs of the children.

  • Interact in a positive manner with the children, being alert to their social, emotional, physical, and cognitive needs.

  • Communicate with children at their developmental level

  • Maintain a nurturing and positive environment to promote children’s self-esteem.

  • Assist in the preparation of record keeping including daily care forms, information forms, attendance forms, and inventory.

  • Assist in the observation, evaluation, and record keeping of the children’s developmental progresses.

  • Assist individual children who experience difficulty in the group.

  • Assist with observations and documents of significant individual and/or group behavior.

  • Reinforce positive behavior and use time out minimally.

  • Comply with all state and local regulations regarding the care of children.

  • Become familiar with school routines and policies while keeping Director of Child Care

  • Assist children with self-care activities, feeding, toileting, and personal care as appropriate.

  • Maintain a safe, clean, and orderly physical environment including general housekeeping before and after meals and snacks, laundering of items used by children, reporting potential hazards, and enforcing safety practices.

  • Intervene in a positive manner when children are likely to injure themselves and/or each other.

  • Maintain visual supervision of the children at all times, never leaving the children

    unattended.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED.

  • Completion of an active enrollment in CDA program or Associates in early childhood

    education preferred.

  • Some prior experience working with young children.

  • One (1) year experience supervising young children.

  • NAEYC membership preferred.
