A Teach In is an educational event, often organized by educators, activists, or community groups, where participants come together to discuss, learn, and raise awareness about specific social, political, or cultural issues. Unlike traditional classes, Teach Ins are informal, participatory, and often focus on timely topics such as social justice, environmental concerns, or political movements. They may feature lectures, workshops, discussions, and Q&A sessions, aiming to empower attendees with knowledge and inspire action. Teach Ins can take place in schools, universities, community centers, or public spaces.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a teacher, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Teacher, you need a solid background in your subject area, a relevant teaching credential or degree, and classroom management skills. Familiarity with learning management systems (LMS), educational technology, and curriculum planning tools is typically required. Strong communication, patience, and adaptability help teachers connect with students and foster an effective learning environment. These competencies ensure that teachers can deliver engaging lessons, support diverse learners, and create a positive impact on student achievement.

What are some common challenges new teachers face when starting their teaching careers, and how can these be addressed?

New teachers often encounter challenges such as classroom management, adapting lesson plans to diverse learning styles, and balancing administrative tasks with teaching responsibilities. Building strong relationships with students and seeking mentorship from experienced colleagues can help ease the transition. Many schools also offer professional development programs and support networks designed to help new teachers develop effective strategies and gain confidence in their roles.

A Transition-to-Academia Role for Experienced Nurses Ready to Teach the Next Generation

We are seeking experienced bedside nurses who are ready to take the next step in their careers and transition into nursing education. This role is designed specifically for clinicians who bring strong real-world nursing experience and are interested in developing into confident, effective nurse educators.

You do not need to already be an experienced educator. What matters most is your clinical expertise, your commitment to patient care, and your desire to shape the next generation of nurses.

This is a supported transition-to-teaching role, with structured onboarding, mentorship, and faculty development designed to help you succeed in the classroom, simulation lab, and clinical setting.

We believe the best nursing faculty are developed—not simply hired fully formed.

Why This Role Is Different

Many nursing programs expect new faculty to immediately function independently with limited preparation for teaching.

In contrast, this role provides:

  • A structured onboarding and faculty development program
  • Step-by-step mentorship in how to teach in classroom, lab, and clinical settings
  • Guidance in active learning strategies and student engagement
  • Support in transitioning from clinical practice to academic instruction
  • A collaborative faculty team that does not expect you to “figure it out alone”
  • Leadership committed to your growth as an educator

This is an ideal opportunity for nurses who want to stay in the profession they love while moving away from shift work, nights, weekends, and bedside burnout.

What You Will Do

As Nursing Faculty, you will:

  • Teach and support students in classroom, simulation, and clinical environments
  • Help students build strong foundational nursing knowledge and clinical judgment
  • Support first-term nursing students as they transition into the profession
  • Provide feedback, mentorship, and academic coaching
  • Participate in curriculum development and program improvement over time
  • Contribute to a supportive, student-centered learning environment

Ideal Candidate Profile

We are seeking an MSN- or doctoral-prepared nurse with strong medical-surgical clinical experience and a passion for helping new nursing students succeed.

You may be a strong fit if you:

  • Have experience in medical-surgical nursing or similar acute care settings
  • Enjoy teaching, mentoring, or precepting students or new nurses
  • Want to transition out of bedside nursing into a more predictable schedule
  • Are excited to learn how to teach in an academic environment
  • Are comfortable working in a growing, fast-paced academic setting
  • Value teamwork, professionalism, and shared accountability
  • Are committed to helping at-risk or first-term nursing students succeed

Prior formal teaching experience is helpful but not required.

We will teach you how to teach.

Benefits

At Galen College of Nursing, we want to ensure your needs are met. We offer a comprehensive package of medical, dental, and vision plans, tuition discounts, along with unique benefits, including:

  • Full-time faculty are eligible for a 90% tuition discount for Galen’s Academic Leadership MSN and DNP programs.
  • Certification renewal and exam reimbursement.
  • Comprehensive medical coverage that covers many common services at no cost or for a low copay. Plans include prescription drug and behavioral health coverage as well as free telemedicine services and free AirMed medical transportation.
  • Additional options for dental and vision benefits, life and disability coverage, flexible spending accounts, supplemental health protection plans (accident, critical illness, hospital indemnity), auto and home insurance, identity theft protection, legal counseling, long-term care coverage, moving assistance, pet insurance, and more.
  • Free counseling services and resources for emotional, physical, and financial well-being
  • 401(k) Plan with a 100% match on 3% to 9% of pay (based on years of service)
  • Employee Stock Purchase Plan with 10% off HCA Healthcare stock
  • Family support through fertility and family building benefits with Progyny and adoption assistance.
  • Referral services for children, elders, and pet care, home and auto repair, event planning, and more.

  • Education assistance (tuition, student loan, certification support, dependent scholarships).
  • Colleague recognition program.
  • Time Away from Work Program (paid time off, paid family leave, long- and short-term disability coverage and leaves of absence).
