ABOUT INUVIALUIT REGIONAL CORPORATION (IRC)

Established in 1984 to manage the settlement outlined in the Inuvialuit Final Agreement (IFA), Inuvialuit Regional Corporation (IRC) represents the collective interests of Inuvialuit. IRC's goal is to continually improve the economic, social and cultural wellbeing of the Inuvialuit through implementation of the IFA and by all other available means. Through strong partnerships and communitydriven programs, the organization supports economic growth, cultural preservation and opportunities for current and future generations.


Inuvialuit beneficiaries directly control IRC and its subsidiaries through a democratic process of elected directors from each of the six community corporations with chairs at the IRC Board, a process originally outlined in the IFA.

JOB SUMMARY


The Sallirmiutun teacher plays a key role in preserving and revitalizing the Sallirmiutun language as part of the Inuvialuit five-year language plan.


Reporting to the capacity manager, the teacher will be responsible for teaching Sallirmiutun to students, helping to ensure the language's survival and growth in the community. Also known as Siglitun, Sallirmiutun is a vital part of Inuvialuit culture and heritage. Its preservation is essential in maintaining the linguistic diversity of the Inuvialuit Settlement Region (ISR).


We are looking for two teachers for a one-year term position, with a possibility of extension. Ideal candidates will have experience in linguistics or education, be proficient in Sallirmiutun and have a background in curriculum development


QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must be/have:

  • Have a bachelor's degree in education or a related field, or equivalent experience in teaching Indigenous languages.
  • Hold or be eligible for a N.W.T. Professional Teaching Certificate (CertifiED NWT) or a Language Specialist Certificate.
  • Be proficient in Inuvialuktun/Sallirmiutun and understand its cultural significance.
  • Have experience in curriculum development and classroom management.
  • Demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Be passionate about language preservation and cultural education.
  • Be familiar with Inuvialuit culture and traditions.
